I would say that the motion sickness wasn't as bad as Blair Witch or Cloverfield, but worse than D9.
For me the motion sickness was the scariest part of this movie .

Nope. My understanding is that they were trying to capitalize on all the docu-drama shows like Ghost Hunters and Ghost Adventures. I think the biggest inspiration came from Ghost Adventures. If you've ever seen the Ghost Adventures documentary, it is probably one of the scariest paranormal accounts I've ever seen. The TV show was ok, but the documentary (which happens to be the very first show they did) is what put them on the map.
Paranormal activity drew a lot on these shows.

Yeah, that ending was awesome. SEMI SPOILER IN WHITE
Hearin those footsteps had me freaking out. You knew something huge was coming, but I was not expecting that. The vision of her just standing there is still with me. Awesome.
And no, I don't think any of that was real at all. From what I read, the director filmed the movie in this house that he lived in and he got the idea just from the creepy noises he would hear in the house. He put up 15k of his own money, filmed the flick in 6 days, then some higher ups including Spielberg saw it and fell in love with it and felt that it could become the next Blair Witch Project.
Pretty remarkable numbers for the first weekend in a semi wide release. 20 millions dollars in only 790 theatres, for an average of 26 thousand per theatre. That's 9 million more than the top 2 movies of the weekend combined.

To answer your question...no.
If paranormal activity could be proven you would be a very rich person, for eons people have tried and failed.

Will have to see the movie then. My girlfriend and I watch a lot of these shows because they are pretty much the only things on tv we can agree to watch together. One good thing about living in the UK is watching Most Haunted, which was the first of these shows and which Ghost Hunters ripped off (and does a poorer job of IMO). We're pretty excited to watch this year's Most Haunted Live Halloween special which goes every night for 8 nights and is more fun than the prerecorded shows. Even if you think the shows are fake they are still pretty entertaining in a professional wrestling kind of way. We're trying to get tickets to the Most Haunted Live, or failing that we're looking to spend a night here next week, where both Most Haunted and Ghost Hunters have visited:

Apparently witches used to hang out here and do crazy stuff. Would be fun!

Pretty cool movie, definitely worth seeing as a halloween flick, but the low budget shows in terms of editing. Just a few adjustments would have made this a classic.
My biggest peeves relate to the ending, though the movie did drag in places. During those periods they should have focused on character development.
-Those last footsteps were just too pronounced, it was too obvious... it was stomping... bare feet don't sound like that-- she couldn't make those heavy footsteps, that it was foley noise was too obvious and seemed fake at a time that you are otherwise totally engrossed.
-Her bobbing back and forth that long. I didn't buy it. Waiting until evening for the ending, I get why, but it just suspended my belief in the movie.
Otherwise, nearly perfect for the genre. Go see it.

Pretty decent movie, it had me going for nearly all of it, but, the ending (last 5 seconds) was soooooo stupid, it almost ruined it for me.
Spoiler below:
Why would they do that stupid voice near the end when she was lying on the bed, and why the hell would she they show her doing that stupid face looking into the camera (the final scare). The ending text was dumb "she was never found". This movie did a good job trying to be believable, you had a sense it could be real all the way through, yet then they end off on something sooooooo fake. If they would of cut tape 5 seconds sooner, it would have make a better movie. Someone really screwed up there.
/rant.
Crowded theatre with teens also take away from the experience. Wait till crowds slow down before you see this movie.

Spielberg also thought the last Indiana Jones was a good idea.

The alternative ending that's been floating online is much better than the theatrical ending I think.

The idea wasn't the worst in the world, but the execution was just awful. God, that movie was bad.

Really?? I disagree. I dont think that fits at all. To me, it would kind of seem like a slasher flick. The thing I really liked about this movie was that we don't really see anything at all. It's all about the build up, the tension, and the ending was the payoff......boom, movie over.....But I will have to wait to watch the alternate ending on the dvd to give my review.
I like the way it ended. Really liked the build up to it and I have no issue with the final five seconds like the poster above. I don't like the little write up at the end. Unless it's a true story, don't use writing to conclude your story. It just seems forced and unnecessary.
Very curious to see how this did with more buzz this past week and a wider release.

I saw this the other night and cannot make a judgement on it until I see it again at home. I would not suggest anyone sees this movie in a theatre with throngs of the general public in attendance (we saw it on friday surrounded by the 16-20 crowd, ugh). The crowd completely killed the mood and ambience of the movie for the wife and I.
I can't wait to see it in a quiet, dark room where I can get sucked in and hear all the footsteps and creaks and cracks. That wasn't possible with 17 tr old girls screeching every 15 seconds.

It was released in 1200 more theatres this past week and was number one at the box office with a very nice 22 million. So far, it's made over 60 million.....remember, a 15k budget.....that's an alright return, I guess.

Watching this movie tonight gave me some of the most intense chills I've ever experienced while watching a movie. The daytime stuff was a little boring but I understand what the director was trying to do so I didn't really have a problem with it.
Definitely worth the 12 bucks.
