+1 for Whisky. Hotel bars in Calgary are usually miss, score ratio is probably 2/10 so bars have a higher percentage. It is possible though.

If you are flying solo at a hotel you have to put some effort into it. Dress up, and act as if you are waiting for you buddy who is in Calgary on buisness.

^ See, that's what I meant by doing the hotel thing. You do it just for kicks. Go with a buddy, have an alias, make up some story, etc. Think Wedding Crashers. lol

And yeah, % wise, it is lower than a bar or club. But you can always bail if nothing happens. If nothing else, you have some drinks and carry your story to someplace with more action.

When I was younger, we'd do this maybe a few times a year. It's just good fun.

Does anyone here go solo to clubs at all?

If you're looking to pick up, i'm thinking this is really the best way to go. It forces you to put yourself out there without your friends to fall back on.
