Be thankful we live where we do, and pray for those who are suffering.
Not to derail this already derailed thread, but you don't really believe praying will accomplish anything tangible for them, do you?

Yes. Yes I do. Not to those gone, but to those who are left. Yes.

This is sad.
Well, Sept. 30 is International Blasphemy Day, so maybe this is some sort of divine punishment?

Was that a shot at me? This is my first venture into this thread.

Is there a new meme that anytime someone acts insensitively or is a ###### they will Flip out?

The politicians will end up telling us that this stuff happens because of "global warming"...........and we will need a carbon tax to curb the effect.

I just coined it. What do you think?
It's meant in good fun! You set yourself up for it long ago when you registered as "flip".

Seems accurate.

As long as you're laughing with me, not at me.

That is the thing with this site. Everything will be joked about. Too many posters here think they are being 'witty'.

They should have a section for serious conversations only.

And a section only for people who have been here longer than 2 years, apparently.

No, just a section for serious conversations is all that is needed. Then the 'witty' comments can just be deleted.

I don't actually recall seeing a serious conversation thread anywhere on this site. Have you? Can you show me?

I am sure the show me will lead to a few 'witty' comments.

There is a difference in this thread. Nothing has gotten over the top like in some of the other threads I have read.

This is a serious topic, there is no denying that. But there are a couple of things to consider. 1. This is the internet, so if you are looking for serious conversation it is best to look elsewhere. 2. Sometimes people cope with tragedy with humour, although I don't think that applies here.

Nothing has been made light about the tragedy itself or the loss of life. When I posted El Nino, it was in response to something someone else said. It had nothing to do with the people who are suffering.

The tragedy is not a joke, but we deal with the thought of our own mortality in different ways. I think that is why people joke here.

You have to put everything in perspective though. This is the internet. This is a site about a game. Those two things together, to me anyways, spells anything but a serious conversation.
