I went to a three-year old's birthday party at Lloyd's. It was some serious fun and we had the place to ourselves. I vote for this one (even over my suggestion ).
Another cool one I went to was a gymnastics studio for a different three year old. That one was wicked and even the parents were allowed to play/abuse all the equipment.

We went to one at Gymtastics over by costco in the south. The kids had a blast. If the parents are going to be around or if all the kids can swim, going to one of the liesure centres/westside/cardel might be a good option.
Although when we were kids playing street hockey outside was fun enough for us.... Maybe a hitman game?

Lloyd's is great. My daughter almost always has her parties there. They only charge about 13 bucks a kid and it includes the food and endless pop. All you bring is the cake. They have one person looking after you, they clean up after you too. The kids aren't in your face all day and they have a riot! Another idea is Stage West for Kids. They get to eat all they want and the kids shows are really good! My daughter went to that place out on Glenmore where they climb walls and play all day..does anyone know the name of it? I can't remember the name but its a good place for a party, but it is ALOT more expensive than Lloyds. Advice: don't do the movie theatre thing for 5 year olds! All they do is go to the bathroom through the whole show and talk to each other.

Southland Leisure Centre has a party room with a climbing thing like at McDonalds and a table for eating at.
Lloyds is only good if all the kids can skates. Plus the staff are kind of jerkish.
Calgary zoo has a room you can rent. Science centre is really cool but you need extra adults to ride herd and you only get the room for an hour so you have to be quick.

It was mayhem, way to overcrowded, nowhere to sit and if you did find a place it was filthy, the 12 year employees were not of high work ethic plus it was severely understaffed, stand in line for a half an hour to get some tokens, since the token machine was broke. Plus the ticket rebate machine was broke.
Also the other little monsters there would just come up and steal stuff from you and what are you supposed to do, beat em up?
Then when you are finished you round up your 7000 tickets which takes 20 minutes and trade them in for a toy that is seriously not worth 1 penny, just absolute crap. Kids on the other side of the planet enslaved to produce complete garbage that ends up in the trash 5 minutes after you leave, maybe not ironic, but something.
Ya, I wouldn't recommend that place.
Pick up one of those Calgary'sChild magazines, there are a billion businesses on this in Calgary. There is definitely no lack of momtrepreneurs in this city.

You know, I generally like Fotze. His posts are funny. But sometimes I just don't know what he is trying to say. Should I go to chuckees or not? I am no more clear on what I should do than when I started reading his post. Maybe he used white text? Yeah, I will check that.

I don't know if they have it here, but a friend of mine was able to rent a massive amount of lego's and filled a living room with them. The kids played for the day and the company came and packed everything up and took it away. Brilliant idea I thought!!! Who doesn't love lego!

a company I work part time for does themed parties for lots of different budgets. We have some really cool themes (pirate, knights, superhero, race car, harry potter, etc.) you can rent a party from us - we provide table stuff, game ideas, props etc. or we can come in and do the party for you, not bad prices eitiher depending on the number of kids. Pm me if you're interested

These birthday parties are getting out of control. I saw a party of ~10 year old girls getting picked up by a limo at Heritage Park on the weekend. When I was a kid, almost every party I attended consisted exclusively of a Duncan Hines cake, hot dogs, and pin the tail on the donkey. Except for the one party where they took us all for milkshakes, that seemed pretty swank in the day. These days you can end up easily dropping like $300-$500 by the time you pay for admission/entertainment, party favours, and food.

Pin the tail on the donkey? I thought that that game was just a made up TV meme. I didn't know that anybody in the history of mankind has actually ever played the game.
FTR, I'm also convinced that pinyatas (sp?) don't really exist, and that all those videos of the kid missing the pinyata and sacking their old man are staged.

from someone who has been smacked with the pinata bat, let me tell you they exist. I was working a princess camp this summer and one of the little 'princesses' decided to take a running start at the pinata and missed and smacked me right in the face.

Lol. Were you dressed as a clown? Maybe it was the physical version of a Freudian Slip? I know I want to hit people dressed as clowns with a baseball bat...
