Are you entitled to collect EI if you lose your job because you striked and then got fired/replaced? I mean, thats a lot like quitting really.

Maybe they are scared they are going to outsource to India. hehe.
Anyone take MGIS321 at the U? One of the final projects is a collective bargaining where one team is the union and one team is the mgmt. Easiest negotiations ever, because the people who were on the union team didn't believe in any of their own positions. They just all caved. haha.

None of them really own the title if you(your wife in my case) shops correctly. She goes to each and every one of the grocery stores and buys items when on sale. They all have good prices on sale items.
If somebody is just going to walk in and buy items at a particular store then hey they obviously don't care about price anyway.

The last comparison I saw on CTV had Superstore as cheapest, then Safeway, Sobey's and finally Co-Op

Whoa, what? Is this a serious post?
Your wife drives from store to store to comparison shop for groceries? Are the savings (not to mention the wasted time) even worth it once you factor in the added cost of gas and wear & tear on your vehicle?

Uh yeah..
Can't be serious.
My and my wife's time is a lot more valuable than saving 8 cents off some Shake and Bake.

When I worked at Safeway back in University, every weekend we would get an older German lady come in and argue to the penny about every second item she bought. She would also try to use invalid coupons on most items and would prey upon new cashiers hoping to get breaks in her favor. It would take her probably 2 hours to get into and out of the store every week. We knew she did this at other stores in the area because our clerks would see CO-OP, Superstore, and Sobey's bags in her trunk when they helped her out to her car. She earned the nick-name 'Coupon Nazi' among the staff. The nickname transcended our store as my friends at competitor stores called her by the same nick-name. Most likely it took her all weekend to prepare her coupons, check prices, and shop. What a life!

Driving from store to store to compare prices would be ridiculous. It does pay to compare prices in the weekly flyers though. You buy items on sale at the store where they are the cheapest and then move on to the next store to buy their cheap items. It's usually not too hard to spend an extra hour shopping to save $40-50.

From the article, it looks like the main objection is raising the work week to 40 hours from 37. I fail to see how not wanting to change your hours - regardless of whether you're getting paid for it or not - isn't a valid reason to reject a contract.
Note that this is a LOCKOUT, not a strike, so it is the company who is forcing the workers onto the picket lines. I suppose if you have the temerity to reject a contract agreed upon by your lords and masters that firing you IS an appropriate response, though - it's too bad we don't still have public flogging or they really get what's coming to them.
PS - one of the big reasons I quit working at Bell was that they unilaterally raised our hours from 37.5 a week to 40. Some of us prefer more leisure to more money - I know it sounds crazy, but there it is.
