I had a surprisingly good benny at Moxie's for brunch on the weekend. Had pancetta instead of ham and was quite delightful.

I like Phil's too, and Galaxie is good, but I have yet to find a place in Calgary that has an absolutely sublime benny. I'll have to try a few more from this thread.

What makes a good Eggs Benny?
For most of my life, I detested the dish. Still, I told myself that this is good stuff. People really like it and so should I. Thus I soldiered on, trying eggs benny every few months or so at various establishments until I grew to enjoy it. I think the Hollandaise sauce was usually too rich or plentiful for my taste.

A strange choice, but I swear that a little place called Mugs Pub in the Beltline has the best Benny in Calgary. Sadly, it is only available during their Sunday brunch.

The best Benny(s) I have ever had are from the Cup of Joe Cafe in Victoria.

I would agree with Diner Deluxe. Galaxie is also very nice as many others have mentioned.

A good Eggs Benny is made with a really good sauce (not packaged crap) eggs cooked soft to perfection, and fresh soft muffins, not crispy. Last time i had it at Phils it was disgusting, but usually have good luck there.

I'll throw a vote in for Cora's as well. My wife love Eggs Benny and she claims they have the best she has ever had.

So people wouldn't confuse them with examples.

Great suggestions guys.
When it comes to ranking Benny you must look at the following factors:
- The Sauce - should be the right consistency and not too rich. It should be flavorful but not make you feel bloated.
- The Egg - fluffy white, nice runny yoke without being gross. Hard yoke - no good!
- The Muffin - Must be fresh and soft. Now if an establishment is choosing to use a base other than the English Muffin I will give it a shot, but in my vast Benny experience the EM is the best choice.
Now you then also have to consider the meat ingredient. Ham is the standard, but Salmon is the best....
Finally the sides - I like my Benny with shredded hash browns and some fresh fruit. Ultimately we are assessing Benny, but if you're serving it up with "tater tots" or some other lame ass side dish, chances are you won't land high on my rankings.
Similarily if you can't serve up a nice cup a coffee with my Benny that's also no good.

Is that a little diner-style place south of the downtown area in Victoria? Because one of the best bennys I've ever had was at such a place, but I have no idea what it's called. They had a menu with a good variety of bennys, and whatever I had there was excellent.

I seem to recall having good ones at Moxie's.
Slightly off topic. I remember one of the nastiest looking items at the MGM breakfast buffet in Vegas, was the 'country benedict'. It was an egg, on top of a sausage patty, on top of a pancake, smothered in gravy.
