I thought they could just tow you off the property as you would be in trespass but not impound your vehicle.

It was, when I interned down here 6 or 7 years ago.

Are you sure, I have called the tow truck on people who park in the loading zone of my condo, I didnt pay for the tow truck, and I assume the tow truck didnt just drop it off in a street somewhere.

Why wouldnt they be allowed to tow you? You are in essence stealing from them. Maybe they should call the cops and have you arrested for stealing.

I hate Impark like the rest, but I am pretty sure they can tow you. I have seen tow trucks in the lot kitty corner to the Eau Claire YMCA - hard to believe they are towing the vehicle to some random location and dropping it off. That would be funny, tow it 10 blocks away and just leave it. When soemone comes back they dont know where there car is - hahahaha.

All I know is when I went to SAIT, the BS private parking company that started up used to tow cars to their 'Impound lot' on campus and were forced to remove it because it was an illegal seizure of property. Maybe it has to do with taking something worth 10s of 1000s of dollars to compensate for 12 bucks.

Thinking about it more, I think impark can call the city just like you did to have you towed but they can't tow themselves. Just remove you from the lot. I guess an anolgue would be this:

Imagine you get busted sneaking into a movie. The movie theater then turns around takes your shoes and writes you a ticket for $80.

The movie theater can't fine you, take your stuff or imprison you but they can kick you out and/or call the cops.

I got a ticket from Impark just last week at the Telus Building lot. My ticket expired at 2:04. The Ticket they gave me was written at 2:08. I got back to my car at 2:11. I can understand getting a ticket if I was over a half hour late, but four minutes? What a Nazi.

And to make it worse, I have a big "Flames Avenue" Sign on my bumper, as well as a big Flaming C on my back window. So this Nazi was most likely an Oilers Fan.

The rate increase comes because they think people will pay it, not because they're losing money from people who aren't paying.

If no one was paying, they would come up with a method to ensure that people had to pay to park.

I pay them just to avoid the potential hassle of *maybe* having my car towed to some impound lot half a mile away. Whether it's legal or not, they still do it and I know people who have been towed as recently as 6 months ago for unpaid tickets. I think I can part with $12 if only just for the peace of mind of knowing my car will still be there when I get back.

And if nothing else, if my car gets broken into while I'm not there it gives me something to show to the insurance company when I make a claim. They'll take any excuse to try and screw you out of money if you don't have some kind of paper trail to back your story up.
