Crazy bill, although Dems control all levels of Fed Gov so if it does get passed, Libs have no one to blame but themselves.
As a side note, of course, left of centre people/supported organizations never would they call Obama a saviour.
They would never imply that he is trying to topple a structure of human enslavement and mind control ie Bush.
The Huffington Post isnt a flaming Liberal site is it? Right, its a Fox News supported site

I don't know, I think I'd be fine with it. Then again, I'll admit to having never been comfortable with the internet being in Bill's control to begin with.

Okay, I clearly misunderstood, I was under the impression that should there be a Presidential emergency that control of the Internet would be given over to Bill Clinton, which I thought was pretty awesome.....I see now that the awesomeness is quite limited.....too bad, I'd liked to have seen the Internet after 24 hours with Bill Clinton.....now that would be a F***ed up place!

Not that you should stop. Honestly, I kind of enjoy it.

LOL....
Nice try there IFF.
Of course the 'hope and change'....and not really presenting the American people with any kind of platform, any kind of message with substance....that was a vast right wing conspiracy.
Obama his people ran his campaign, and Obama and his people got the media to buy into the hype. Not Beck, not Hannity, not O'Rielly.
And Obama and his people are the ones failing at his Presidency.
Sure, one could say he would never live up to the hype or the expectations that came with the job, but last time I checked, Obama was the one who failed at even getting his OWN health care bill passed. And Obama was the one who has broken multiple campaign promises. There is a REASON people like Maher are jumping on him.
Not because of some right wing conspiracy, but because of Obama's OWN incompetence.
But hey, lets just ignore what the thread was all about, and help sidetrack it because you don't want to admit that the Democrats have been a complete failure in Congress.

Democrats...the party of civil liberty!
Seriously, if that bill made it to Obama's desk (and it won't even come close) he'd laugh while vetoing it.

"Bill would give President emergency control of the weather!"
Just because you legislate it, doesn't mean it can be done. The American gov't could do a lot of damage to the internet, but that's not the same thing as controlling it. Wake me up when I should actually get worried next time.

Nice try? Okay.
I'm not saying I support this bill--I find it a little silly. Nor, as you know, do I support Obama's health-care reform bill, though for different reasons than you.
But calling Obama "incompetent" after 8 months on the job in which he's actually tackled tough issues instead of kicking the can down the road is just.... well... there isn't a word for it, but it's not good.
Relax, take a deep breath. The election's not for three years, and a lot can happen in between. Pretending that you know what sort of president Obama is or isn't now is just silly. Think back to 8 months into Bush II's term, or 8 months into Clinton's. Obama's actually doing better than either of them--but the point is that it's way too early to tell.

I am guessing they have cleared this bill with Mr. Gore before even drafting.

A dumb and dangerous idea. But as already mentioned, probably won't pass, and I'm not sure how it would even be logistically possible anyway.

This whole "oh, he's not a saviour therefore he's crap" thing is--sorry to say it--really, really stupid. Obama's just a politician. Sometimes he'll be on the money, sometimes he won't. He's still a much better president than Bush, but that really is setting the bar very low indeed. Whether he'll be a better president than Clinton, or even a better president than Reagan--well that remains to be seen. But it's way too early to tell.

David Brooks looks at the declining political fortunes of Barack Obama in the New York Times today . . . . Brooks is a rare right wing columnist in a decidedly left wing institution but takes a fairly matter-of-fact gaze of the declining popularity of the left - or more precisely independents abandoning Obama - coming out of the 2008 election.
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/01/op...s.html?_r=1&hp
I've said in this forum before that Obama's timing entering office couldn't have been more fortuitous given he would be taking the reigns at the bottom of a recession while 2012 would likely be nearer the top of an economic cycle, almost regardless of his own actions.
The guy in office always looks like a genius with a halo in those situations.
History consistently favours re-election in those circumstances, even if the President has little to do with the turn of fortunes. Economic cycles tend to come and go, almost regardless of who is in office and what their policies are.
Fortune favours good timing just as bad timing can be a death sentence (GW Bush I was at 73% in the polls after the first Gulf War and out of office a year and a half later on a recession economy as an example).
Even today, it would be hard to believe Obama wouldn't be President again after 2012 if we use history and economic cycles as any guide.
Yet . . . . .

How do you make fun of Barak Obama? It's still a subtle business.
