Yup, complete with the brilliant Dr. Evil reference.
I wish I knew or remembered more about past movies to get all the references Tarantino makes. The ones I do catch always leave me grinning.

Yeah, I was surprised at how much of the movie was in French, German and "Italian". Pitt's character speaking Italian sold the entire movie for me.
This movie is absolutely nothing like the trailers make it seem, but it was pretty damned good.

I can't wait.
District 9 and this....two movies I can't wait to see.
Been a while since I've said that for the Box Office.

Saw this in a packed matinee today.
Absolutely blown away. My initial reaction is this is Tarantino's best since Pulp Fiction; completely awe-struck by the symphysis of story, character, music (especially the Bowie song and the spaghetti-western theme music), and filmmaking - this movie is all spectacle and it had me spellbound from the get-go. The Landa character especially is almost too much for words - the actor who plays him is a spectacle unto himself. The opening sequence in this movie is worth the price of admission alone, and sets the bar high for what is to follow, but amazingly, Tarantino ups the ante again and again, all the way to the ridiculously over-the-top finale and the grotesque closing moments.
All I have to say for now is wow...

Oh man, that's the best movie I've seen in awhile. Absolutely loved it.
Only complaint is: the idiots at studio 10 on Macleod didn't think to test the projector before starting the movie. Sure enough the previews start and the are all a very blurry, and very bright neon green.
It took them about half an hour to fix it, but their fix simply meant turning off green. No green, meant no red. As you can imagine, no red in a Tarantino movie, was quite the piss off.
All the blood was freaking orange. The nazi flag was orange and black.
Luckily the movie was phenomenal and you completely forgot about the screwed up colours anyways.

just got back from it. loved it. The random Harvey Keitel call and Samuel L. Jackson narrating the one scene were awesome.

it's an absolutely brilliant movie, saw it at Eau Claire opening day afternoon and everyone cheered during and after the movie.
Along with all the other comments, I have one observation to make: this movie is about the power of words vs. the power of violence. Most of the scenes in the film are long verbal battles, words being used as a weapon of war almost, and the end result is that violence either results or is kept at bay.
Shosanna was the best character and her story was great, Landa was fantastic and Christoph Waltz ought to win an Oscar, and Brad Pitt was comedic gold.

Just got back from the movie and have to say it was pretty awesome. For a longer movie there was only one scene which seemed to drag on, but other than that it was amazing how quick the movie went by.
This and District 9 are what audiences should expect when going to the movies.

First off, I'm a HUGE QT fan and have been since Reservoir Dogs. I own all of his work and will eventually purchase IB when it's available.
I was kind of disappointing in this film, here are some of my grievances with this movie.
For a movie starring Bard Pitt, it certainly doesn't showcase him what's so ever. Plus that guy from The Office, had what two lines in the whole movie?
The hype about that crazy former Nazi, now Nazi killer was a let down.
He didn't do jack squat. I kept waiting for a tonne of action from him.
For all the hype towards the scalping and legacy about the Inglorious Basterds by the Nazi's, they sure didn't do a lot of it. One could even say that IB wasn't really about the IB at all, just a mere side plot. The real movie was all about the French girl who got away and killed Hitler.
I really hope that QT releases an extended Directors cut with an additional 30 minutes of the IB's going to town on the German infantry. Two scenes in the same forest? Really? Come on QT.
I did find Landa's character really wearing on me later in the film, way too much screen time.
I will say that the opening scene was pure writing and acting brilliance.

^^^ Have to agree with much of what you said. I too am a big QT fan, and I don't just get off on the violence. I actually prefer the smart/funny talking scenes and intriguing dialogue. Samuel Jackson fighting with John Travolta over the context of foot rubs, mentioning the 'royale with cheese', Bill and his thoughts about Superman... Obviously there are a ton more, but these are some of the most obvious high notes in the dialogue in his movies.
But either I missed something here or this movie just didn't have the same interest as Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill Vol 2 (wasn't a big fan of the first half), Reservoir Dogs.
The first chapter was kinda what I was hoping for the whole movie. (expecting a few violent scenes as well like the second chapter, which was also very good) But as the movie wore on I felt like the two plot lines just didn't jive with each other, and that snappy dialogue and interesting observations I was hoping for, was mired in all these little plot twists that ultimately didn't even matter to the movie. Even the bar scene, which started off popping, just kinda wore on.
And I agree it had WAY more to do about Shoshanna, than the Basterds. I was hoping to see them in action. They were entertaining when they were. The movie was named for them, and heck, the commercials were about them. Having seen them round up a few more Nazi's would have been fun.
Not that the story around the Jewish French girl was bad, it was very good. Just that it was more suited to a traditional war movie, than a QT flick. And heck, if he wanted to do THAT story, then that's great too, I would have gone seen that as well. But ultimately, you had her plot line running alongside of the Basterds one, and neither even really mattered to each other.
And the styles, in both the stories, ended up quite different. Now, I've heard this is what he was going for, but then I have to ask, 'why'? It detracted from the movie for me at least.
Spoliers: Even if the Basterds weren't there, her plan to burn down the theatre would have succeeded. And vice versa, even if she weren't there, their plan to blow up the theatre would have succeeded.
But it was fun seeing a movie 'where the Jews kick ass'. Which is what they were going for in the interviews I read.
And I missed the Dr. Evil reference apparently. What was it?
Good movie, but not QT's best work in my opinion.

It was good. It was a lot more comedic than I expected which was a surprise (why I would be surprised by anything QT does... I don't know).
I don't know what to think about some of the references though like the Scare Face one near the end. I laughed when I saw it but I'm not sure if it was over the top.

I loved it. First movie I have seen a very, very, long time that I want to see again in the theatre. QT hit a home run out of the park on to Lansdowne Street.

I still don't understand the love of Pulp Fiction. I mean its a good movie but not even close to Resivoir Dogs or Kill Bill or Basterds but lots of people love it and proclaim it to be the greatest movie ever. I think that it is one of those movies that a lot of people like because it is cool to like it.
That being said it is filled with fantastics quotes.
