I actually just came from Drumheller two days ago, me and the girl were bored and did an overnight trip in Calgary from stinktown to go there the next day. It was beauty! We did a 1.5hr hike on the trail around the Museum, its so crazy how that's Alberta. I actually saw cacti, and I hear there's scorpions in the Red River! Amazing area...

EDIT: Actually I'll post a couple pics when I get home.

http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attractio...y_Alberta.html I have found this site helpful when outside of Calgary but it has some ideas for Calgary and area also.

Small town rodeos on weekends can be a hoot . . . . . although it's getting later in the season now.

I was volunteering at the Millarville Fair last weekend . . . . and won $50 with some photography entries . . . . maybe your knitting will do well next year!!!

Think of volunteering for something out of town . . . . as an example, a half-marathon is coming up in Canmore in early September and they probably need some help. That'll get you off the couch.

There is actually a genuine book at Chapters called "Day Trips From Calgary." Go buy it.

There's a Chicken on the Way in Cluny. Go find out for us if they have a basement.

Go out and rent some quads and go off-roading in McLean Creek area or Waiparous.
Best experience you'll ever have in the mountains.

That's great but pick a day when the trails are not wet and muddy.

The owner of the Longview Hotel claims to have the best burger in Alberta and judging by the weekend, mid-day, biker crowds, maybe he does.

The Chuckwagon in Turner Valley is always packed in the morning.

I'm pretty sure I was in the Spitfire Grill in Turner the other day having a very fine lunch. There's a couple of very nice, eclectic little places in formerly deadbeat towns Turner Valley and Black Diamond now, catering to the Calgary crowds out for a spin or the myriad number of bikers or bike riders.

The Longview Steakhouse has no peer according to ranchers in the area. I give people gift certificates to that place.

A Taste Of New Orleans in Okotoks requires a hefty wallet but is very, very nice. . . . . and I think they have live jazz on Friday nights. An evening date.

The Millarville Market, Saturday mornings, gives up a pretty good breakfast, although the lines are long if you're there after 9 a.m.

But really . . . . . think of a places like Linden, Acme or maybe a bigger spot like Vulcan . . . . take the circuitous route to get there, walk around a bit, take a look at a few menus, take a chance . . . . . no McDonalds!!!

I love driving across the prairie on windy, hot summer days with the barley rippling.

I was walking for hours with the dogs on Sunday west of Turner Valley (Gorge Creek Trail) in muck up to my eyeballs . . . . . but strangely, had a good time.

Last Chance Saloon in Wayne (near Drumheller) is great, and definitely worth the trip if you're heading down to the badlands.

Good ol' Roy. He's got fire in his belly! I got into a long argument with him once at a project open house.

Anyway, here's my suggestion :

Lundbreck Falls is nice- like a poor man's Elbow falls. But maybe only 30-60 minutes worth of looking at once you are there.
