If you promise me I will never have to see acting like that again for the rest of my life I will stop texting and driving.

yeah, we are that stupid to realise that not concentrating on driving is dangerous...and we "need" a law for it. yet, i see people on the talking phone, texting...even reading books!!!! while driving.
good thing i ride a bike to work. that way i am save from other drivers...oh wait.

People, in general, are very stupid. This is exactly why laws exist.
Anyone who even tries to justify the use of a cell phone while operating a vehicle deserves everything Darwin throws at them - it's unfortunate that they tend to take people out with them.
Using a cell phone while driving is the same as running with a flaming torch through a gas plant. Hands free is a little better, but even then I find it too distracting to setup and use. That phone call CAN wait the 10-20 minutes.

Australia is known for making great road safety ads.
They really let nothing bar them. Good taste be damned, they tell it like it is.

I remember in highschool when we took drivers ed we had to watch the drinking and driving public service messages which didn't show accidents, but showed actual accident scenes, with blood and guts and dismembered body parts lying over the road.
I don't think it had the best effect, sure the girls were shaken by the carnage, but the guys were laughing and asking for rewinds.

if only the guy in the other lane had been texting too, then he would have been driving on the shoulder and the whole thing could have been avoided. texting and driving could have saved his life.

The other day I was on foot crossing an intersection and a guy pulled up to the stop while texting. He stopped, made eye contact and let me cross. Then, not two blocks later, another driver, not texting, on the phone or anything, practically ran me down in the crosswalk. Don't get me wrong - I think phones, DVD players, even GPSs (I was in a near accident with someone fiddling with their GPS when they shouldn't have been) should be banned from the front seats of cars. But it just goes to show that bad drivers are going to be bad drivers no matter what.

I'm going to continue talking on the phone while driving, like I always have.
Since I got an iPhone though, I won't text. Too complicated.

I think the emergency crew that hauled teenage driver out of the car should have laid the beats to her afterwards while shouting "stupid texting dumbass."
I'm only half kidding. It's not nice to call people names.

Do the "shock people into submission" ads work? I kind of doubt it.

I can honestly say that I have never sent a text message in my life, but do people really attempt to do this while driving? Seriously, what kind of idiot do you have to be to do that?
That would be like trying to play a video game or read a book while driving.

Depends on the demographic I think. If they're targeting teenage girls, I think it would invoke some kind of response.

It's not quite that bad, but it is a bad habit to get into.

So you defiantly decide that your convenience outweighs my safety?
There is a mountain of data proving cell phone use while driving increases the odds of an accident. It is indisputable.
What is really scary about your post is that you suggest you drove and texted til you got your new phone. Wow, just wow.
I hope you come around before you hurt someone.

I too, will continue to talk on my phone while I drive. Can't say it affects my driving, even though there are studies that tell me otherwise. I must be the exception to all those stats that get pumped out.
I try to text at a red light from time to time, but while driving? With the iPhone? That's a little over the top, isn't it?
Maybe I should look into a Bluetooth headset for the iPhone though.
As for this video, it was pretty stupid and pointless from my point of view.

I admit I text while driving... however, if there is traffic nearby or it's a busy street, I just put the phone down. If there are visible cars coming at me on the highway or the ditches are steep, I don't text either. So basically, I text, but because I'm not comfortable with the environment around my car most of the time, it's rare that I do.

To make that claim without knowing me is pointless and wrong.
I'm not one to preach, but after reading this and the previous thread on the subject, the idea that texting while driving is a lot more common than I had previously thought has left me a little rattled.
If you text while driving you are a complete idiot.

Yup, sure. It's a bad habit, no one should do it. And if you do do it, you should stop.
