Just saw it. I think best movie of the summer is quite a stretch. 6/10.

I liked the movie, but the way it was shot (shaky camera) made me bit queasy.

Awesome awesome awesome awesome.
The only movie I've ever seen in a fully packed Saturday night theatre where there were no people talking amongst themselves, checking their cellphones, or even leaving to use the bathroom.
Awesome.

Yeah, I loved this movie; great storytelling with documentary-style beginning, and I loved the fact that the main character was an unlikable sniveling bureaucrat, the aliens were disgusting and unsympathetic, and all the factions were corrupt, and the city is hot, garbage-filled and ugly. The general story arc - of becoming something you detest while gaining all these cool powers - is pretty typical superhero fare, but still very well told. The ending was great, but I really hope they leave it as a one-off with no sequel. I'd put it as one of my top three of the summer, along with Up and Star Trek.

My thoughts exactly.
These types of movies should not have sequels.

Thought it was wicked. Saw it at 4pm yesterday afternoon.
spoilers in white:
I loved the robot suit at the end, and when he gets ahold of the alien weapons the first time. sweet.

I thought it was really good. I'm not a big fan of the documentary style that begins and ends the movie, but everything else was interesting and seemed like a realistic alien movie, as well as a clever satire.
I wish we knew more about the back story though.

I just saw it, good movie, but for some reason it made me nauseous, especially about 5 minutes in to 15 minutes in... the combination of the camera style and content seemed to make me sick (not sure what else it could have been). I was sitting somewhat close to the front, and hadn't eaten before-hand, so maybe that was it.

Excellent movie. I like the switching between "documentary" style and a standard style of storytelling. The "video footage" is what the public is fed but we get to see the real story of what happened. As a storytelling device i think it worked brilliantly. The movie was not what i was expecting but i think that was a good thing as it kept me riveted to my seat all the way through.

Really unexpected. I more or less hated all the characters, but by the end, I was totally rooting for Chris and the sniveling bureaucrat.

By far the best movie of the summer. The camera work was stunning and the documentary style beginning and end fit really well. The only negative for me would be that Wikus Van De Merwe reminded me of Murray from flight of the concords.

Fook, FOOK! With all the language and some graphic scenes, I was surprised that it was 14A. Great movie (by far the best of summer) although the previews for upcoming movies were horrendous.

Pretty decent. Although it is lessening in my mind on reflection. It's sort of a cooler, more blockbuster version of Children of Men. Not that District is in the same ballpark intellectually but same kind of feel and direction to it. 7.5/10

How did Wickus the and Alien walk up to MNU headquarters in the middle of J-burg without raising any suspicion?

My wife compared this movie to Children of Men. Both movies leave you with that same hollow feeling at the end.
