I'm curious about that, is it that no credible conference will invite UTAH or BYU, or that the mid majors are not looking to upgrade conferences?

It is a lack of invite not that Utah and BYU aren't looking to upgrade conferences. Boise State is trying to get out of the WAC and begging the MWC to expand and take them in.

Utah is having trouble getting BCS conference teams to schedule them. They won't do a home and home just a game at the BCS conference teams field. Notre Dame did sign up for a home and home starting next year.

I would like to see the Pac-10 expand to 12 teams in order to have 2 divisions and a conference championship game. Utah, Boise State and BYU are the three most obvious teams to join the ranks, but how do the rest of their sports teams (aside from football and basketball) stack up? What about Fresno State?

As for this years NCAA football season, I think the Gators are going to be very tough to beat. If they stay healthy and make it out of the SEC, they could be back to back. I'm hoping for a Florida-USC championship. USC is going to have to avoid a mid or late season upset this year though.

SI comes out with their top 20...top 4 are the same as the coaches but it changes quite a bit from there.

Utah at 19...Penn St. at 14 and OK St. at 7 (yikes).

The knock on Boise State is they aren't competitive in other sports. The knock on BYU is they won't play on Sunday. Knock on Utah is everyone on CP thinks they suck

Pac 10's general feeling is they own California so teams like Fresno State and San Diego state aren't appealing to them. Expansion would need to bring in new markets . So Utah would bring a new TV market and if Colorado really wants to switch conferences they would make sense.

Huh?

Utah has to be one of the smallest TV markets in the USA.

What really bothered me from the article is this:

The NCAA's football rules committee, meanwhile, is weighing its own sportsmanship-related measure. Taunts or showboating by players in mid-play -- for instance, as a ball carrier is five or 10 yards from crossing the goal line -- could be treated as live-ball rather than dead-ball fouls, potentially wiping out scores in the same way holding and clipping do.
Taunting or showboating during a play negating it? Gimme a break! I think this could end up being way too subjective, and it gives way too much power to the refs. Anyone read the Jake Locker thread? I know that was clear cut rules wise but I dont want to see a celebration having a huge impact on the outcome of a game. These are not robots, they are amateur athletes.

I guess the Terrell Pryor hype machine is working well?

Overall though, and i would tend to agree, looks like its Floridas title to lose this season.

so often the preseason AP is more of a popularity contest/trendy vote when it comes to big conference rivals like that.

Well, as the resident LSU fan I think they're ranked too high. I'm a firm believer in not having a poll until week 4 or 5.

I'm hoping LSU can knock off Florida at home, if they're lucky they may win the SEC West. Beating Florida twice in one season wuold be a tough task.

LSU has questions at QB as well as on defense, though senior RB Charles Scott is a man and was NFL ready as a sophomore. He'll be fun to watch this season.

Being the resident Gators fan I think the LSU UF is the game that I'm worried about the most. Not only did florida beat you like a step child last year at the swamp they humilated them.

I think LSU's D is stout the offense isn't the scariest out there.

So Defensive battle all game long I think florida takes it though. What scares me is possibly playing twice in one year. I moved to tuscaloosa last week and the homers here are kinda funny. They think some how they are going to be an offensive juggernaut this year.

Bammer lost too much in the off season, IMO. We'll let them keep thinking "Saint Nick" is leading them back to the promised land...

Yeah also they over exceeded expectations last year. I think Vatech is going to ruin their wet dreams in a couple of weeks.
