Those pictures make me want to go back to Chicago. I had a blast when I went two winters ago.

Chicago's a great city. Big enough enough to have all the stuff you want, but quiet and relaxed enough for it to not drive you crazy. I can just picture the winters next to that lake though....brrrrrr.

My face is a bum!

^ I went there in January a few years ago to catch a Flames/Hawks game. Next to the lake, so nice and humid, freezing cold, and windy as hell. I still loved it.

Kids are too trusting these days.
They need to manufacture one of those with a false bottom. That'll learn 'em.

I'm glad they renamed it in honour of my father. ;-)
I'm afraid of heights and I managed to stand on the glass in the Tokto tower with no issues. I sure I couldn't do "My Dad's Tower" though.
Ok, now try this.

My children taunt me that I am too chicken to stand on the glass floor at the Calgary Tower.
I'm not afraid of heights. I'm afraid of hitting the pavement.

Do they do the ride with the doors off? We did that tour in Kauai and it was awesome. Riding through the Waimea Canyon while you can look down at waterfalls and such was really cool, I bet the Grand Canyon would be fun too.

That one with the little girl spread eagle on the floor, looks like she could be on the top outside of the elevator if you look quickly.
No chance for me either. Not only the glass you have to worry about but you've got the elevator mechanics to think about too. What about air pressure change? When I go up in towers downtown my ears pop. I'm not saying this thing is sealed, but a glass enclosure in a pressure sensitive area on wires pulling it into the sky, WHATS WRONG WITH YOU!

WHATS WRONG WITH ME?
LOL. I didn't realize it was just a balcony. My stupid bad.
If it's just a balcony, I'd do it pissing my pants, but it'd be good fun. Probably ask someone to hold onto my belt loop in case it got wobbly, haha. I went back and re read all the posts and am surprised there's so many wussies here. I'd be one of those to jump a little, just to see if there's any give.

I was at the Sears Tower in June and they didn't have this platform open. Must be part of the new renovations that were happening when we were there.
Chicago is a great city...we saw the Cubs play the White Sox and Wrigley...if you think the Edm-Cgy rivalry is intense, that was insane! The trash talk in the stands was fantastic. But they know how to have fun, and I think there was only 1 fight (much more civil than even a typical CFL game).
By the way, Chicagoans (?) hate the name Willis Tower...it will always be known as the Sears tower.

I'd go on it, jumping up and down and all.
The thing is designed strong enough that you pretty much could park a freight train on it.

When I drove back from Toronto last week we went through Chicago. Saw the Sears tower and took a few pics of it. It was pretty impressively tall.
The I-90 took us right through downtown Chicago right past the tower. Taking the I-90 was a huge mistake. What a traffic jam... and this was at 1:00 in the afternoon. I can just imagine what it must be like between 4-5 pm.

I think you mean ...splat. Think of packet of boil in a bag beef stew hitting the ground from 5 stories and you'd get the equivalent.

Cool idea. If I went with the family I would have to leave my wife on the first floor and never, ever show her the pictures of my kids doing the same thing as the girl in the picture.

maybe I'm mistaken, but I remember at CN Tower them having a similar thing where there was glass on the floor you could look down. I was woozy looking at it, and didn't stand on it. Then on the way back down the elevator the attendant asked if any of us stood on the glass. The kids said yes, adults no. Then the attendant laughed and said the whole floor is like that, but that's the section they pulled up the carpet so you could look down.
Really, like another poster said, if you can get over the cognitive thought of falling, and realize you are indeed 100% safe. Why not, it'd be cool!

I'm surprised at the # of people that wouldn't walk on that.
