A few moments, but really nothing special. Better than some stuff on TV but when Family Guy comes back I really think both shows are going to go downhill just due to lack of material..... ok the cia is nervous about terrorism moving on... what same joke again..... yeah......
|
I'm thinking the same thing as you. It had it's funny moments (the purse stealing scene in the mall, I laughed, and that fish is kinda funny), but it is basically a rip-off of Family Guy.
The main guy was too annoying I thought, I think his voice has to be toned down a little.
I think you're right that both shows will go downhill once Family Guy is back. So, despite SOME potential in the show....here's hoping it gets pulled before FG comes back.
PS - When is FG returning?
|
FG and American Dad, it appears, both go into full swing May 1st.
I agree, the show had its moments, but it's also the pilot. I'm betting it gets a bit better, but will always be overshadowed by Family Guy. Kinda like Futurama and the Simpsons.
Yeah I can definitely see that. Futurama will always be second-best to the Simpsons, but it's established itself as a decent show nonetheless.
With American Dad, I think there are just too many comical characters, maybe one too many. I think the show would be better with just the German fish or just the alien. But with both of them, it just seems a little too much, in this show.
FG somehow pulls it off with Stewie and Brian, but Brian is less comical. And the two of them are smart characters with good material. Which doesn't look like the case for the fish (Klaus?) and that alien dude.
Hope it gets better.

This show is a brutal rip-off. MIGHT have been funny if Family guy hadn't done the exact same humor before... and better too.
|
I wouldn't call it a rip-off because it was created by the same people who made Family Guy. Unless you can rip off yourself... I don't know.
Anyway I thought is was a good but not great show, but it will get better when it gets into full swing.

I don't know, wait for the whole episode before you pass judgement.
A show just like Family Guy? Can't complain#

Wait for the whole episode before I pass judgement????
I cant believe you actually said that. Some of the sh*t that people are comming(sic) up with on this board these days is astonishing.
I dont know if you are being sarcastic or trying to be funny, but that is plain ######ing ######ed.

WTF man? I saw the first "teaser" and didn't think it looked great. I'm waiting for the whole episode before I write off the series.
Strange, no?

I think he was being sarcasitc? not sure though. If not than that's possibly the weirdest post ever.
you've got the quiet accepting mom, the loudmouthed idiot dad, the strangely personified character that solves problems, the older spacey daughter and the younger son that has trouble fitting in with his peers. oh and the innefectual accented character...
for whatever reason i know it's carbon-copy family guy but i like it anyway. that god-dubya conversation, plus the over-the-top CIA dad, really put a political spin on it too.
probably will be gone but it's a good sub for FG in the meantime.

Regardless, in hindsight you're funny!

Show was kind of lame, but it had enough funny parts to keep me entertained. I'll watch it again when it comes back.

Not bad, better than I expected and had some good moments like the bush-god conversation.
Had some good lines in there:
"kudos on the biatch!"
"wow, your stream is so powerful.." haha!
Of course it's just a pilot but the voice work and animation could be better

It's not that bad of a show I thought Simpsons sucked during it's first season. In fact it took until season 3 before I actually started to like the episodes. I will admit though Simpsons sucks again that Super Bowl episode was brutual please take it off the air! Simpsons hasn't been good for at least 5 years. I say give American Dad a chance, overall I'm looking forward to seeing Family guy and American Dad later this year!

The reason this show urks me so much is because it is almost exactly like Family Guy in every way.
They use the same voice actors, same animation, same type of comedy, same basic characters. The son is basically the dork who is always in love with Meg.
If Family guy was never coming back then this show would have some potential. But now all it will do is steal story lines from Family guy and make them both considerably weaker over the next couple of years. I say let this show go and focus only on Family guy.
It's like Leonardo Da Vinci releasing Mona Betty, which just turns out to be Mona Lisa with red hair and a mustache.

Just to inform you people, its made by the same people as Family. Therefore its not really a rip off. Definaltly was worth my time and kept me laughing constantly. The poiltical theme really makes it different for me and that can be the source of alot of new material.

We already established that it was from the creators of Family Guy. It doesn't mean they can't rip off their own stuff.
Anyway, I didn't think the show was anything spectacular. I definitely didn't laugh constantly.
IMO, there are 3 main changes that need to be made:
1) The Alien has got to go. Unfunny.
2) The German ski-jumper fish has potential and needs more lines. I thought he was hilarious.
3) They need to tone down the Dad. He's a little too obnoxious. I know, I know, it's called "American Dad," but it's a little too extreme and it wears thin fast.
EDIT: forgot key words in key places

The problem with the Family Guy comparisons is that they (the producers) seemed to make them ad nasium with the from the makers of family guy comes American Dad... well your setting us up to make the comparison right away.

I really enjoyed it, watched it today (the wife taped it for me I was working) and I thought it was good i'm looking forward to it start up again, the purse snatching scene was hilarious, I think it strays far enough away from family guy that people will be able to like both, I really like family guy (have both dvd sets, a few shirts) and I'm really glad it's coming back but I think I'll watch both of them I was really pleased with this first episode I thought it would suck but it was pretty good

American dad is a very old test-pilot. I saw it online more than a year ago. While on the outside, it's just a pale Family Guy clone, it has it's own unique comedy.
I liked it, and it's better than most of the other crap on TV.
