I want to see it for the mayhem but I'm afraid I'll go blind by snapping my optic nerves by rolling my eyes too much.

Hope this doesn't turn out to be as crappy as "The Knowing".

It's funny I remember Next coming out and then The Knowing, both starring Nick Cage who could predict or figure out what events were going to happen, even has the same crappy haircut in both does he not? It kind of brings out that Stiller joke out of Tropic Thunder a bit.

I cannot stand movies that ride on special effects and dont bother to develop the characters and plot. I have no doubt Hollywood will screw this one up too. I probably wont be able to keep myself from seeing it though, so Hollywood keeps winning.
I loved independence day.

I heard somewhere in that trailer about "pole shift", which is a common 2012 fear (or fear-mongering for a quick buck):

I don't see his sister in the credits but she's gotta be in there somewhere, she's always in his movies. It's like the Neid-a-brothers.

Just remember the warning that I gave to friends who wanted to go see The Core- just set aside everything you know about geology, physics, etc and enjoy the movie.

I'm trying to think of a way I can profit from all the 2012 hysteria. Maybe I can be a "y2k12 consultant" an assist companies in becoming 2012-compliant.

Bet people the world won't end in 2012.
If it doesn't you get money.
If it does you don't have to pay because you're dead.
Hopefully you know someone dumb enough to take the deal.

This flick comes out this Friday. Early reviews have been typical for Roland Emerich's flicks, so not good. I was surpised by the nearly 2 hour 40 minute length. Apparently there's way too much time spent on characters that the viewer will not care about and it just leads to the next big massive special effect. My favorite line from a positive review, "You'll be thoroughly entertained throughout, but hate yourself for liking it afterwards"
I'm a sucker for big disaster movies. Kind of a guilty pleasure, so I'm gonna check it out on Sunday, with moderate expectations.
Anyone else planning on seeing it?? I;m thinking artsy fartsy movie snobs need to stay away. You're gonna HATE THIS!!!

Its a guilty pleasure, I enjoy disaster films.
Not expecting a lot, but because of that I'll probably enjoy it.

Last movie I went to see at the theatre, even though I knew it would suck, was 'Couple's Retreat' (forgot to not recommend it in the recommend-a-movie thread) - if this is *remotely* better than that, which I have great confidence it will be, even though it too will probably also suck overall, I will be happy.
I'm going to go see it. It's been a slow autumn at the theatres this year.

TheStar today gave it 1 out of 4 stars. I'm not normally a listener to critics, especially with music, but with a movie like this, anyone could see this coming a mile away. It's a movie purely based on visuals, with little story. The review basically said this, and pointed to the senseless dialogue (making something out of nothing). Sounds simply like a made for TV movie, and although I was very interested to see it, won't be seeing it now. There is nothing worse than seeing cheesy dialogue for a movie with little storyline. I guess if you see this guys other movies, you've seen them all.
