I use shortcuts and I don't see a problem with doing so; texting is the most informal written communication possible, so I don't have a problem with using "u" or "b4" or whatever contractions are generally accepted in the format. Think of it as using a stripped down version of the English language meant only to convey simplistic thoughts, and you won't be so concerned with it looking like regular English.

I don't care if it takes me an extra 30 seconds, I spell all words correctly.
Using those abbreviations and numbers would be embarrassing. Not a big deal though since I send maybe 4 texts a month.

I used to have a blackberry and did full sentences, was just easiest for me. Then I went to a cell from 1996, not the big beige block, but close. I hate to text on that thing so much that I don't usually, and when I do, I shortcut, but in my own way. I hate the typical short cuts so much, "U" for you just makes me feel like a 14 year old. B4 makes me want to cry, but generally, I'll pass on all punctuation because getting to that screen is such a horrible pain in the butt.

I always use proper spelling and punctuation when texting, though I get laughed at for how slow I am. In my own defense I have a really old cell phone.

I can't bring myself to forget proper grammar and spelling when texting. I can't ever envision myself using an abbreviation like "ur" in a text. I don't think it takes longer to text real words, especially with a qwerty. My son taught his Nana how to text and she uses abbreviations. Its so weird to have such a teenage style of writing come from a 66 year old woman.

I'm a big texter. I despise talking on the phone. I do it all day long, i don't want to do it any more than i have to. That being said, 95% of the time i spell all words. It depends on the conversation i'm having and with who. If i'm texting after work with a co worker, then sometimes i will use short form of words we use at work.
(I type notes in customers accounts all day long so, words like SHE SAID is SS, or the just the word SAID by itself is just SD).
But, just regular people and a short enough conversation, all words are spelled correctly.

I always use full words. But I'd say I'm an infrequent texter.
I'm not sure I'd know what 1337 means if I hadn't played WoW for a while.

Always use full words where I can, aside from certain standard abbreviations like "LOL".

I always use correct spelling and grammar. I really do not like it when my step son sends emails using 'text speak' - all abbreviations and no capitals. It takes us a while sometimes to work out what he is trying to say (we are old, of course). I also know when my best friend back in England has dictated a text to her 14 year old daughter to send to me as it is all in text speak - usually done when she is driving.

I'm a definite supporter of the use proper grammar/margins club, but I have to admit I don't always follow it. Guys with girlfriends should know how much girls love texting. It's freaking non-stop. After awhile, proper grammar stops mattering and I just use slang with her, otherwise I'd spend my entire day texting. When I'm textin any of the boyz I'll use proper grammar.

Glad to say I've never sent a text in my life. Although if I did text I would imagine some shorthand would be useful, although as mentioned numerous times T9 or whatever it is called autocorrects most things.

I always use proper grammar and punctuation when I text or IM someone.
Also, I'm totally guy #4. It drives me crazy when I'm out with someone and they spend all their time texting people, it's just disrespectful. It's gotten to the point where I've started to tell people 'either put the phone away or I'm going home.' You don't agree to meet someone and then spend all your time thumbing away with someone else, the text will still be there in an hour or two.

Srsly? i alwys txt n full englsh. 4 rlz.
I really do though. I hate the short form of things. Unless I'm within a couple characters of the limit, I don't bother to go in and chop out things. Lots of big-ass messages get sent from my phone.
I also enjoy using T9, but it can get aggravating since my phone never seems to learn the words I use a lot. Like ######, or Bawlf, or Camrose.
