Looks like it'll be a food court.

The entertainment wing of the mall is scheduled to be completed in 2010. Along with the theatre, it is expected to have a few restaurants and a bowling alley. There is/was also plans for a race track, hotels and the like but I'm not sure the status of those.

A man's mall...
1 Home Depot
3 Sporting Goods stores
3 Electronics stores
1 Food Court
4 Bars / Pubs
1 Book store
1 CD / DVD store
1 Pool Hall
1 Acade
1 Fishing Tackle / Hunting goods store
1 Sears outlet (I guess we need somewhere to buy pants shoes socks shirts and underwear and the occasional gift for the little woman)

At least we can say GOOOOD BYEEEE to Deerfoot Mall. One of the worst malls in the history of Calgary. Maybe they can turn it into a huge paint ball complex.

Speaking of Deerfoot mall, I had a friend who came down from Edmonton one time visiting Calgary with his girlfriend from Vancouver. He calls me up and he's like "yah, so I hear there's some kind of outlet mall in Calgary near the highway, do you know which one it is?". So then I'm thinking "uh, you can't mean Deerfoot mall. No one comes to Calgary to go to Deerfoot freaking Mall. I guess when he read about it, he thought it was more along the lines of what Cross Iron Mills and Vaughn Mills malls type.
So being the good friend that I was, I told him to have a blast at Deerfoot mall with his girl without actually telling him what he was in store for. I think he was a little disappointed.

If I have to take the wife all the way to Balzac so she can shop, it should at least have a strip joint.

A Walmart SuperCentre is going there so its going to get better. I refuse to shop at Cross Iron Mills and provide revenue for a leach on the City of Calgary tax payers.

Isn't this mall supposed to have a horse race track attached to it?
Your wife goes shopping... you drink beer and play the ponies.

I've actually found this mall useful in the past. When Sears had it as a clearance store there were good deals. All hit and miss but still good. Plus the Mark's Work Warehouse clearance place has some good deals. Again hit and miss but worth a shot once in awhile. I guess it's what you want in a mall. I don't have any desire whatsoever to go to Chinook or Market Mall. Too crowded and I wouldn't go in 90% of the stores anyway.
I kinda like the less successful malls. But then I shop very stereotypically. I go with a purpose. I'm in and out in 10 to 15 minutes tops other than at Christmas. A good mall to me is one I can get in and out of quickly.

Is this an upgrade to the Walmart that is there already?

Damn it, I wish we had a Diesel outlet!
The only reason I went to Deerfoot was for Winners and Thai Express.
