-see if you can take it to the groomer and watch as they do it
-when you try it yourself, it should get easier each time you do it as you cat will start to trust the situation more
-at first, as your learning, you may not be able to shave the whole cat at once.

I can compare it to one cat we have who hates having his nails trimmed. however, the cat has realized we dont do it to hurt him and that its helps him as it keeps him from sticking to the carpet. so the cat will be still for a minute or two. sometimes i can get all four paws, other times i cant. sometimes the cat will only stay still long enough to trim the front paws. then ill have to let him go and try again later.

You might have to do something similar with your cat. If it wont stay still long enough, you might have to shave it in two or three tries. As time goes one, your cat should realize you are actually not tryign to harm it and are helping it, and it should be more patient with you.

For safety reasons, it is always a good idea to shave your own . It also saves you lots of money..........

I haven't managed to convince my long-haired cat that even scissoring off the clumps of hair he gets on his belly isn't some kind of fiendish torture - after eight years. Now I just hold him while he squawks and struggles and do it despite him meowing and hissing. Then he gets really mad, and gives you the death look, but ten minutes later all is forgiven. So I'd suggest you just keep working on the premise that the cat doesn't know what's good for it, and get someone else to hold while you do the shaving; make sure that person is inured (like me) to getting scratched and bit, and maybe have them wear gloves.

Buy a good brush and just brush her daily. My buddy is a Maine Koon and he was the same way until I started brushing him daily. Now all is fine.

my wife goes to someone to get her kitty waxed. Nothing worse then choking on a hairball when your in the middle of "grooming". It ruins the mood.
