I couldn't imagine watching a perfect game, how tense you would be in the final three innings.

Remember Pedro Martinez' perfect game, and the classic call by Dave Van Horne.

Roy Halladay's nearly no-no in his 2nd career start, and Dave Stieb losing no hitters in the 9th inning in consecutive starts.

Some day I hope to see a no hitter in Calgary... just to prove it can be done at Foothills.

I was at the 2nd of those almost no hitters by Stieb.

Wasn't one of those nearly a perfect game too?

Edit: nope. His consecutive broken up no hit bids were in 1988 (both with two outs and two strikes), and his perfect game was broken up in 89, again with two outs.

What is the better perfect game?

27 pitches, 27 outs? (ie all ground outs and fly outs) or 81 strikes, 27 strikeouts (not necessarily zero balls)?

I think doing it in fewer pitches is cool but harder to throw 27 consecutive strikeouts.

I'm not sure. I was going to say it would be harder to throw 27Ks (no balls) simply because if you throw all strikes these hitters are good enough that they won't take too long to get a hold of at least one.

But with 27 pitches you are counting on the hitter actually putting it in play without a single wiff, tip or foul.

Fielders are amazing these days. Remember when a leaping catch over the wall to save a home run were a rare once a year amazing occurance?
Don't want to shatter any myths, but this is an ongoing debate that has the most simple answer.

There has never, and i mean never, been as much coverage of major sports as there has been the last 10 years or so. As such, there have always been these kind of catches in baseball but there has never ever been so many caught on video. Hence, just not as many seen as there is now although I am demeaning niether.

When put into perspective, todays catch was unreal though. Emotions were high.

Just imagine how much better that video would be if the announcers didn't completely blow...

I watched Kevin Millwood throw a no hitter in 2003 in Philly. He could barely hold the ball in the ninth, walked the first batter on 4 pitches. I think the entire team went to the mound and settled him down. Still can't believe how lucky I was to see one live.

I love how fast he works.

Same when Doc works - it just makes the entire game so much more enjoyable when you can pay attention and know the next pitch is just moments away.

When I saw in San Diego a few years ago I saw a game between the Padres/Cubs take 2:07

That's only like 4-5 beers and a bag of peanuts, I would've asked for my money back.

I don't buy this. ESPN has been around for 30 years now. I've been watching TSN nightly for 18.

How about: playoffs - 16 starts, 16 shut-outs?

In my mind, that would trump a perfect game.
