There is another fire affecting residential areas tonight. It's near Rose Valley which is also on the West side of the Lake.

Anyone else think that Kevin Lowe is responsible for this? He's getting desperate in his attempts to get Dany Heatley to move.

The largest fire is now out of control.
There are a total of four fires burning around Kelowna.
11000 people have been ordered to evacuate and another 6000 people have an evacuation alert.
I hope everyone in the area is safe and that the firefighters can contain and extinguish the blaze before it does much more damage.

I'm supposed to be in Peachland near the end of August, hopefully things will be under control by then.

Wind has been relatively calm most of the day, though it's supposed to pick up tonight. Coming back from golf this morning, the fire ######ant bombers were putting out a fire on the Kelowna side, hopefully that was put down.

My inlaws live in peachland and we're camping near there in a couple weeks. Sounds like the emergency response has been really good considering the whole area is basically comprised of dry tinder.

I got back to Kelowna from Penticton tonight. There's a back road used for forestry trucks that is now being used a detour between the 2 cities. Takes about 2 hours and is all gravel/dirt, but manageable in almost any car.
It's not looking like the roads will reopen too soon, so this road is the best bet for the next while.

this is why as a kid growing up in the Okanagan with a dad who drove a logging truck, i get really annoyed at enviromentalists who bitch about clear cutting. nature does a lot more clear cutting of her own than man could ever do, and an old forest that's been cut down and replanted with younger trees stops fires like these since there's no old timber left to burn

How close is this to Westbank? I have an uncle who lives in Westbank on the hill above the golf course...

To CP people in Kelowna: I am not familiar with Kelowna and was there just 2 weekends ago. Is this close to Boucherie Rd? Actually, the other side of Boucherie Rd? My husband's relative on that side. We just visited them two weeks ago and was wondering if the fire is on that side. Tried calling too but nobody was answering the phones. Anyway, just want to know if they are ok. Thanks.

I was on Boucherie Rd for vacation last week, and am not sure (we left before the fires) but I am also wondering about friends who are still there, and the resort owners etc.

So yeah, it appears the fire is surrounding the area where Boucherie Road is.
