What world are you living in? $44 an hour? Ya right

Its actually more like $50-60, for grads. The old man own a couple of pharmacys and just hired a fresh grad and the going rate is ~100-120k.

Its supply and demand people, there are less and less pharmacists, and the US steals so many of our pharmacy grads (they pay stupid amounts down there).

Yeah, I think Ducay is right. Also, if you own your own pharmacy you can be very successful. However, from a couple friends of mine, the pain of managing them is not worth it. Still, a great stable career. As people get older, we'll need more drugs to keep us alive.

$120K sounds great except for the part about having to be a Pharmacist... Spending the whole day in some supermarket drug store on your feet counting pills, by yourself, with the occasional 1 minute conversation taking money from a sick person. With that kind of boredom, it would just be too tempting to start dipping into the supplies.

I knew a girl that took pharmacy, graduated, worked for one year, hated it so much that she went back to school for her B. Commerce.

Pharmacists rarely count pills. Thats the tech's job. Pharmacist is mostly there to talk to patients, discuss such and such with them. Its a good job for people who like to talk, it wasn't for me when I found out I'd have to spend my day discussing old peoples illnesses.

I don't know, in the two pharmacies near my house (neither of which are that busy), the pharmacists seem to usually be working by themselves at the back. I'm pretty sure they are pharmacists and not techs, these places aren't usually busy enough to have more than 1 staff. (Do techs work alone ever?)

Also, don't you get stuck with a lot of sucky evening and weekend shifts?

Pharmacists (and nurses for that matter) make so much money, because they make sure doctors don't kill you.

This is a very true statement.

Would perspective employers laugh too hard at a 39 year old grad looking for a job in this field? I'm contemplating a return to school and figured Engineering was my only option given my current age since I have 14 years of pretty relevant experience from my pitiful drafting gig. It's one thing to have a bunch of 20 year olds call you a loser for being in school in your mid 30's, it's another to have employers say, no way old man, go back to drafting.

Somebody once told me that the person who stocks the newspapers on the BC Ferries everyday, actually makes more than nurses in British Columbia (both emploeyees of the province I think).

Is that actually what you make when everything else like expenses is factored in though? I bill out at about $70 hr, but my hourly wage (if figured out from my monthly salary) is much lower.

Back in the late 90's I did a job in 5 hours from start to finish. I saw the invoice come through on our fax machine where the company got paid $1200 US for it back when the dollar was like 64 cents US. So hey, for 5 hours of my life I billed out at $320 an hour. Too bad I only got paid like 65.
