AGD is terrible, terrible beer. Never tried CO-OP brand, but if it's anything like AGD I know I'm not missing anything.

There are only two reasons to drink budget beer:
1) you're getting blasted while camping
2) you're in college/university and are dirt poor
3) you're a starving artist and are dirt poor while trying to save money for new rims and big tires for his truck.

In all other cases, spend a couple extra dollars and get something that is actually drinkable.

Fixed.

See, this is actually my philosophy to the letter, which is why I was motivated to start the thread to begin with.

I also really like...Black Label. Its so gross but I love it.

I had a Black Label beer mug from the 70's. It was freaking cool. Can't remember where it went. Room-mates most likely.

Went to look for Big Rock Lime, all sold out, but they had a huge pile of crap (I mean Bud Light Lime) that no one was touching. Anywho, in looking for an alternative, I thought, hey... didn't they say on CP that this Co-op beer is actually Big Rock stuff? So I picked up a case of the Gold Premium, and for about a $1 per bottle, who can complain? It's not the classic, has no Big Rock cap, but brewed by the Pine Creek Brewery Company which is owned by Big Rock. Not that bad of a taste either

I picked up a case of the Co-op classic ale. I thought it was pretty good, but I do prefer Trad. I find Trad a little less hoppy. But still, I was quite happy with the Co-op beer.

Actually it is also brewed by Big Rock. PC beers, AGD, Bow Valley and coop brand beers are all brewed by Big Rock. AGD and Bow Valley are actually the same.

Big Rock also cans Shmirnoff ice.

Edit: BlackArcher101 Pine Creek Brewing is just the label Big Rock throws on their budget beers. It all gets brewed in the same building as the premium craft beers.

On a related note, I'm going to tour the Big Rock brewery next week. I've never been so I'm greatly looking forward to it. For $25 you get a 90 minute tour, free samples and get to take home a six pack of mixed and matched Big Rock beers of your choice. I think that's decent.

I really love the craft breweries in Canada and want to support them more. They do make the finest brews in Canada and some of my all time favourites.

Life's too short to waste time drinking Lucky Lager (or equivalents)...

but I fully agree that Co-Op Classic is a terrific beer for the price! Way better than Co-Op gold, which is doable, but better after you're had a few already

Ah Lucky Lager, we've had good times together. Can't drink Brewhouse anymore. I really like the PC honeybrown ale or whatever it's called, but i'll have to try the Co-op brand. Clamato makes anything drinkable when you're on a budget! Bowen Island is probably the worst budget beer I've had.

Agree with the Coop goodness, but my dirty little beer secret is Brewhouse, which comes from Great Western in Saskatoon...it makes me laugh that I can get it a bit cheaper here (@ Superstore) than at the SLB store 3 blocks from the brewery in S'toon.

I seen a promotional poster for Brewhouse saying something like "guaranteed hangover." They weren't kidding.

Well I had 12 coop golds at softball last night.... tastes okay by the 7th and at the 12th its game over. Won't be doing that again, although it was nice to get stupid on 13 dollars!!! I love playing ball in the community I live in so that I can walk there and not have to worry about drinking too much at the game.
