I hear ya. I was the same way. Then I got cheap tickets through a buddy that goes to SAIT, and we had a blast. It's WAY different live.
But if you're going to be closed minded.... [/b][/quote]
Good for you.
Point is, it's still a minor league.

*sigh* Try contributing instead of belittling everything you read on this board.
NLL is, indeed a fringe sport (in your words, minor league). So what? Does that make any difference?
Does that mean it's not a good product they're putting out? Does it mean it's not fun to watch live? That it's not a good way to spend a Friday evening?
Seems like you're just here to bash Calgary regardless and not contribute anything else.

I was down at the 'Dome for the game last night against Colorado, and it was quite an entertaining game. No shortage of goals, hits, and excitement.
Having watched games both on TV and live, I'd have to say that TV just doesn't tell the whole story. There were 11,000 people at the game last night and the atmosphere was rockin!
It's a fast, physical game that deserves some recognition here. It's not a "bush-league." No doubt about it. Sundeep, I encourage you, next time you're in an NLL city, to check out a game. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. And if you're not, fine. You're entitled to your own opinion, but so are we. Youdon't have to impose your opinion on everyone else by putting down everything they say.

I didn't know the Oilers were a league.
Hey, even the CFL is bush league, and I enjoy it. The NLL is even lower than the CFL.
If you enjoy it, you enjoy it....but my opinion of the game still stands....and it has nothing to do with whether Edmonton has or gets a team or not.

From what I've read, the NLL is paying NBC to put the game on tv.
No question it's a bush league...just look at how many teams in the past 3 years have folded or relocated.
|
Yeah right. With the league being as small as it is, and the players making probably less than what CFL players make, you honestly believe that they can afford to pay NBC for 3 hours of live coverage? If it is a bush league as you say it is, why would NBC want to broadcast the game for? They could show 3 old episodes of Friends and get better ratings.
From what I heard, Edmonton desperately wants a team of their own cause they were jealous seeing Calgary win a championship after just 3 years.

Don't flatter yourself, we couldn't give a two s**ts. Where did you hear that?
Not to say it isn't a big deal though. But had Familia not notified oilfans that your lacrosse team was in a finals, I would have never known. I wouldn't mind seeing one here - it is after all the game that hockey is derived from, isn't it?

Well, it is no secret that Edmonton has been desperately trying to land a WHL team, looking with envy at what the Flames have built with the Hitmen.
It only makes logical sense. Calgary has proven that it can support junior hockey, as well as box lacrosse, and in both cases, the Flames make good coin off of these teams.
The Oilers would be foolish not to consider the same, and their desire for a WHL team proves this. The AHL became the alternate option when the Roadrunners were kicked out of Ricoh, and no WHL team took the Oilers offer. I'm still not convinced that the NHL and AHL can coexist in Edmonton (Roadrunners tickets too high to really qualify as the "family alternative") but if they do, great. If not, the Oilers will continue to press for a WHL team.
The exact same thing applies for the NLL. I wouldnt classify Edmonton as being "desperate" for the NLL, but if a team could fill Skyreach up with 10,000 fans 8 nights a year like the Roughnecks do, it is worth considering. The NLL commissioner has specifically mentioned Edmonton and Winnipeg more than once recently, which suggests that there is interest from someone in Edmonton. Given the NLL's current policies on ownership, that someone is either the Oilers or the Eskimos.

Sigh. Why are so many threads turning into Edmonton v Calgary topics lately.
Back on topic. An all-star game for a league like this simply doesn't make sense. Calgary fans are still getting to know their team, let alone trying to figure out who the other "all stars" in the league are.
Never mind the fact that all-star games in general are usually dissapointing.
Bottom line I've enjoyed the NLL games I've gone to and follow the team pretty closely now (huge win last night BTW), but I have ZERO interst in going to the All-star game. I'd rather save my cash and go to an additional regular season game.

SO, can you enlighten us why we would look with envy towards your WHL team? I think youre full of it. If this is true, then it would be logical to assume that you look with envy at our AHL team. After all, you keep up witht he box scores and attendance, do you not?
There are only 8 home games a year with the NLL?

Sundeep is just p*ssed off because my Lacrosse team, infact the whole Axemen organization use to hand them their ass back after we whooped them in Provincials everyear. Sometimes there wouldn't even be an Edmonton team in the Finals instead it would be two teams from Calgary.....

The Hitmen is one of the more succesful CHL teams, it is in a big city where the main attraction is the NHL, we still pull it off. Yes, you do have a well run AHL squad, Calgary did what they had to do with their's. We will see what you guys do in a years time, then we will maybe envy it depending on how ours works out.

Embarassed? Just another pro team to add to Calgary's portfolio. Just another option people have to be entertained. Just another Champion. Just another thing to put Calgary a bit more in the spotlight. Lacross may not be big, but 9 other teams in the NLL know of Calgary, and surly the all-star game will give them a bit of a spotlight on national TV. Just another bonus to Calgary.
Flames - Oilers
Stamps - Eskimos
Hitmen - Roadrunners....somewhat on balance.
Roughnecks - ???
Mustangs - Aviators....both folded?
NL baseball team - Cracker-cats...(horrible name)
Drillers - ???

Drillers folded.
And if I here in Edmonton haven't heard of the Roughnecks until Familia had to notify me by posting it at oilfans, I hardly think that they gain worldwide exposure like he claims.
Sorry, but I'm laughing uproariously at that gem!
BTW your list should look like:
Flames < Oilers
Stampeders < Eskimos
Hitmen < Runners
Who care's about the rest.

Yes thats a great idea...In all honesty Jiri your one of the more repsected members of CP in my eyes...but some of your fellow flame fans are starting these Edmonton bashing threads...not this one...but others and then we get a barrage of Calgary sucks...Edmonton sucks things going. Maybe the mods should do something about it?
