Oh I understand its more than just the sticker price of shipping something. I've sold probably a hundred items on ebay and totally understand covering that cost.

However there's still a line between being reasonable and just jacking up shipping costs for making an extra buck.

If you know how the seller fees work then you know the main reason IMO for shipping costs.

Anyone with more than 10 feedbacks will dispute your negative feedback if shipping price is clealy marked. Again if someone says they will ship something at cost and they over charge then yes - legit claim.

But if it says (like I do alot of times). $50 anywhere in Canada, $65 anywhere in US and it only costs me 5$ to ship it to you, well that is a cost of sale if its been clearly marked.

Again depending on what you are selling the seller will normally mark up shipping fees 20% to prevent the rare occurance of only 1 bidder.

Its definitely buyers beware however....
My experience is not what I have experienced vs the O/P

It is almost always cheaper to send something ground to the US than Canada - express no but 89.95 isnt express to send those items.

If I was the O/P instead of a refund I would add extra insurance or signature or something.

Vis a vi that quote I was replying to the negative feedback post someone indicated they would leave if they were overcharged for shipping.

well, I have been in touch with the guy who bought the equipment and I told him I would refund him the difference.
He was quite pleased. What goes around, comes around?

You should always add a little bit on top of the packaging and shipping costs but what most people charge is robbery. Got so bad for me I have no used ebay in ~ 3 years.

You should try buying Samples stuff... Seems like he is an upstanding seller.

Way to break the sleazy used car salesman profile.

Put yourself in the buyer's shoes.

If he never noticed the part where you said "I will only charge exact shipping" then that is fine, but since he has actually personally e-mailed and asked you if it was the exact shipping, he would definetely know and notice the postage on the package as being different.

I would return him the extra.

Shipping & Handling: Shipping = $45; Handling = $35.

Personally I would just send him the money and explain why you thought it would be $85. I am sure he will understand and be happy he got some money back.

Nothing worse than scam artists charging $15 for shipping and you assume they'll send priority or courier. You get the item and the postage is stamped $2.50, I always write them back to curse them out.

I overestimated with a shipping charge once, sent the guy his money back asap with paypal.
