Yeah but sometimes there are people whos motorbikes are too LOUD to the point where it's unnecessary, like choppers/cruisers.

Well then in my own best interest, I'm just gonna drive my truck around all day with my hand on the horn. Just to make sure that everyone hears me and therefore doesn't hit me.
Seriously, man? You rely on loud pipes to save your life? How about staying out of blind spots and driving defensively? The only time your "loud pipes" are alerting other drivers are on roads that are less than 70kph. If you can't stay out of the blind spots of idiots when you're going less than 70, on a machine that stops and accelerates much better than a car or truck, maybe you're not totally fit to ride a bike.

No they don't, they don't hear you until you're up beside them and then you startle the crap out of them. Not the safest thing to do.
I was going to say your statement is about the dumbest thing I've heard but I try to be polite and truth be told there have been dumber statements on this board.

Oh, really. Let me guess you're fairly new at this. I know lots of guys in my age group (your parents' generation) who have ridden for decades without an accident while the crazy sports bike riders crash. Yourvtake is wrong. Care, attention and respect for the bike and others are what save lives. Rookie!
Edit: I see others have already taken shots at your ridiculous point of view. When you have 10 years of accident-free riding then I'll respect your opinion.

Rookie!!!!!
Bahahahaha, That is hilarious. I've been riding street bikes for almost 20 years bud, and dirt bikes since I was 5 years old, and I have never seen the pavement. You have the gall to call someone a rookie, and you don’t even know them. Unreal!!
You wouldn’t even know how loud pipes help, cause you obviously ride something quiet. When I come up behind people, they take notice, as they can hear my Harley rumbling. My first bike was super quiet, and people would always change lanes in front of me, when passing. As soon as I put pipes on it, it rarely happened.
Try riding something loud, then come back and talk to me, cause, you obviously never have.

So do you guys ever feel in danger when riding a motorbike even though you guys have been riding for a long time?
Also, everytime I read accidents involving motorbikes on paper, it kind of discourages me to even get a license. However, I want to ride a motorcycle for the enjoyment and as a hobby I would like to grow on, and simply cause it is bad-ass ;D, even if the risks/consequences are there.

Do you ride? Sounds like you never have, but who knows.
Who said I rely on them? I rely on my skill, and experience. Like I told moneyguy, I`ve been on the street for almost 20 years, with ZERO accidents. Who said I ride in blind spots? People will change lanes right in front of you when passing. Only idiots will sit there in someones blind spots.

If your riding a rocket, I agree. When your riding a hog with pipes, they can hear you from way back, as the noise has a way deeper sound.

No they can't hear you, I think your loud pipes have damaged your brain and you've never listened as a bike overtakes you. When travelling down the road, you hear nothing until they are beside you. Maybe you should turn your pipes so they are facing forward so maybe they'll work like you think they do. The way it is all you're doing is scaring little old ladies and children and impressing your buddies.

Okay, I apologize for calling you a rookie when clearly you're not. I was pissed because you said my post was the stupidest thing you had ever heard. Loud pipes do not save lives. What saves lives are driving defensively, never putting yourself into dangerous situations, always anticipating what the other guy might do and having an escape route, not speeding, not driving beyond your skills and just not doing stupid things. Safe driving saves lives; pipes do not.

I think the only reason some bikers have loud pipes is because their bike does not have a stereo that they can crank up to impress everyone.

It's a Suzuki S50.

I'm going to stick my nose into the "Loud pipes save lives" argument.
My first bike (5 years ago) was a cruiser after a year of riding, I changed the pipes and put on louder ones. Why? Becasue it sounded cool. It had nothing to do with being safer, and in my estimation did nothing to improve driver awarness of me, untill I was right next to them. I now also ride an MT-01 (sport bike with a big ass V-Twin) and it's relatively quiet, and there is no discernable difference between the two, as far as other drivers noticing me.
In my experience, people who trot out the "Loud pipes save lives" argument, are just doing it as justification for wanting a bike that sounds cool.
It's in the same category as saying "I speed because it's safer".
I speed because it gets me places faster.
I have loud pipes because they sound cool.
Neither one has anything to do with safety, and anyone who tells you different, is just trying to justify something they know annoys some people.
