It had never claimed to be 100% effective either though.........people just assume. I think it is like 98% or something like that. Same with condoms........
And.............sometimes women will miss a day taking the pill and this can cause an accident as well.
Although most guys love it when their GF takes the pill as it gives more sexual freedom to the couple, the pill often causes womens' sex drive to drop dramatically, so they have to try different types that work for the individual woman.

From what I understand the pill can also put some extra weight on a girl. Since the pill is basically hormones that trick the body into thinking that the woman is pregnant already, it goes on to storing extra fat required for childbearing. My ex was pretty skinny but gained a bit after taking the pill for about a year and a half

I believe the 98% number includes those that forgot to take a pill here and there. If taken as prescribed it is likely about as close to 100% as you can get. But there are consequences to sex and potential of pregnancy no matter what birth control is used is one of those consequences.
Not sure why a lot of people seem to gloss over or not realize that part. But that's another discussion for another day perhaps.
That reminds me when I was in university at the height of Sue Johansen's fame. She came to the university and did a talk and mentioned those huge dong guys that complain about condoms being too small. She proceeded to stretch the thing over her entire arm and said if that doesn't fit you then talk to her after the show.
