TTC is super easy (and cheap!) from the airport to downtown, so that's probably your best bet. If it's just for one day, however, you may want to consider the Airport Express: http://www.torontoairportexpress.com/ Not sure if the extra $ is worth it though -- it may or may not be faster given the time that you'll be travelling (basically, rush hour both ways).

Yeah - just one day. Get in at 6:15 AM and we leave at 6:30 PM same day. Since we get in over 3 hours before the Hockey Hall of Fame opens, I figure it'd be better to save the money and take transit rather than pay the $20 for the Airport Express.
Plus this way I can learn the Transit system a little while I'm there. I'm sure it won't be my last time in Toronto.
