My bad, your parenthetical screwed me up. Either way, if you cant tell the difference between the Keg and Luger's I'm truly perplexed.

What can I say, I've for the most part, always had a great steak at the Keg. Luger's was good too, but i honestly can't say I enjoyed it more. If that's perplexing, so be it, but I'm not going to pretend it was any better just because it was more expensive. I've had several Calgarians share the same opinion about the place. Calgary steak is pretty damn good all around.

One friend of mine grew up in CGY and now lives in Queens. He tells me he never had a better steak anywhere in NY, than he could get at Co-op in CGY. We have much better beef.

It's true, I haven't either. Most places in Calgary, chain or otherwise, serves a decent to great steak. Here, the majority serve stringy hangar streak that gives your mouth a workout.
The same goes true for burgers and surprisingly, Vietnamese.

I used to love steak at the keg, so much so I made a beeline to the keg every time I was in Canada (well after Swiss Chalet). The last 3-4 times I've been to the keg it's been among the worst steaks I've ever had at a restaurant, undercooked/overcooked, rubbery, overseasoned, and just all around no good. The quality has just fallen drastically.
I've never had a bad experience at Luger's, in fact each one has been phenomenal, and the price is at, or below, the typical price in the market.

Ha, well they have their time and place..... ie. like that time I didn't go to McDonalds for a good 3 years, then headed straight there after watching Super Size Me.

Well I do think it tends to depend on the location. In Calgary, I have yet to have a bad one at the Stadium location.
Don't get me wrong though, Luger's is great. And the bacon, oh man. That thick-cut bacon is truly the best I have ever had.

Now that I think about it the Stadium keg has always done me well, downtown and 32nd have been horrible.
That bacon at Luger's is amazing, I might have to head in sometime soon. BLT Steak in Midtown East is actually pretty good too, way different than Luger's but the quality is right up there.

I've eaten at the Keg about a dozen times and each time I leave wondering why the hell I ate there. I have never enjoyed a steak at the Keg. Moxie's actually does a decent steak as far as chain restaurants go.

I've only gone two or three times on my own accord. I'm all about second chances. Then I've also been there a a few times with friends, for work functions, etc. The last time I went was with my girlfriend when she had bunch of free gift certificates. They totally tried to rip us off too.

American beef is just weird. It always has that mushy texture and a far too subdued flavour.
