I thought the first two episodes were both excellent, both in terms of the guest interviews (but then, Farrell and Hanks always make great interviews) and with the skits; any bit in which Conan is getting out and meeting people is always great. Monologues have been so-so, but then as someone else in the thread pointed out, that's never been his strength.

Andy isn't working at the announcer's desk. He looks absolutely ######ed sitting at that little pdoium with the camera cutting to him for reaction shots. Looks like a dunce's seat or like that guy on 30 Rock who is the NBC welcoming guy.
Andy needs to be a sidekick again - and sit with Conan.

While I agree with the first part, I think he shouldn't be there at all. He uses his mic as much as Paul Shafer, which I find very annoying. I really don't need Andy to laugh at Conan's monologue.

What worked on Late Night was Andy sitting on the couch beside Conan and they interacted and talked and made jokes together and he was a constant sidekick/guest and it was like a funny conversation.
Now it's just like "oh man, Andy is interrupting again?" because it's not natural as Conan will make a joke and it's like Andy shouting across the room back at him as the camera goes for the reaction shot.

Joel Godard>Andy Richter but other than that it's been pretty good.

Yeah, I hate hearing Richter's offscreen laugh above everyone else's, and I hate even more when they cut to him to show him laughing. I actually like him being an announcer and look forward to him being involved in scripts and set pieces, but he needs to be more removed from the show.
I was happy to see that they still have whoever does the super-testosterone voice, as in the twitter segment last night.

I never thought Andy Richter was all that funny, and it's even worse now.

Oh man, I so hope they bring those back! My all-time favourite Conan bit. I can't even find it on Youtube, and I've looked many times in the past. Complete side note, Louis CK(ie one of the greatest comedians in the world) was the man who came up with the bit, back when he was a writer for the show.

I looked up and watched the very first Conan episode from the early 1990s last night. Maybe it's just because my expectations were so low from everyone saying the first few seasons were awful (I just dont remember anymore, I was 12), but I actually thought it was pretty funny fun. Weird, awkward Conan humor that people weren't used to at that time I guess, but funny nonetheless.

I have been a fan since day one. I need to go watch the old episodes because as I recall the first 2-3 years were my favorite, but that might just be nostalgia. I do hear a lot about how bad it used to be and I don't recall that at all, but I was only 13 so my sense of humor probably wasn't that sophisticated.

Haha ya that was priceless! I liked afterward when he said "You're not still wearing that stupid smock when you do it are ya?", and it cuts to show Conan freezing in the middle of putting it on. I think Andy's had some pretty good one-liners so far(the "Chevy Scrotum" was classic, and his "I thought you were just petting another exec" was gold too). But I dont like him at the podium. He seems to feel he needs to laugh, and say things. They should just put him back on the couch and when he feels like saying something, go nuts. When he doesn't, just chill out. He's a very funny guy, and it'd seem so much more natural that way.
I also like how they got Max involved again yesterday. So far I've been really impressed with Conan(I missed Tues, but saw Mon & Wed's shows). I'm especially impressed how they seem to be keeping the flavour of the original show. They've cut out the silly, welfare-style bits(at least to this point) like masterbating bear, but they've still kept the immaturish vibe to it that he's famous for. I'm also impressed he had the balls to keep the string dance. Conan ain't gonna change for the Jay Leno crowd, I love it.
