is it hard to get into U of C? do they have graphic design there?
You talking about computer graphics courses? or like an art type class?
I have no idea about art classes, but CPSC has a graphics concentration. I know a guy who currently interning at EA, one of which did a sweet research project about sketch based modeling for clouds. Other than that, I know almost nothing about it because it isn't my thing.
As for it being hard to get in, I have no idea about the current enrollment requirements. When I got in, I was classified as a mature student so stuff is different? Just like anything else in life, if you enjoy what you are doing AND put the effort into doing it, nothing is truly hard. It just gets hard when you expect the results without the effort.

I don't really understand the anime part but I understand the hours and hours and hours part. I was asian soaps for hours on end.
Not sure about doing it at university though, don't they restict internet use to "academic purposes only"?
Technically yes, but I have only ever heard of them enforcing it when there was excessive torrent abuse (300gig uploaded over a couple days). They sometimes threaten it when people game too much and it disrupts people around them, but never seen anything result from it.

Most of my favorites are slightly older ones, not a huge fan of alot of the newer stuff. Though I mean, when I say older, its shows like Cowboy Bebop, Full Metal Panic, Full Metal Alchemist stuff, not the beginning of the era type stuff.
I probably dont watch as much as I used to, but I still watch alot, and enjoy most of them. Real excited about the reboot for Full Metal Alchemist, following the manga this time around, should be a goodie.
I don't like much anime (and I grew up around it and been to Japan enough to know), but AKIRA will always be the pinnacle of this genre.
I'm not sure what the big deal with AKIRA is. I watched it and tried to like it but I couldn't do it. It just seemed like a poorly constructed movie to me that happened to be animated. That being said, I'm not an anime fan, and might be missing something everyone else seems to love?
A ton of people must love this stuff though because there is this huge anime festival every May long weekend at UofC. Since I'm a workaholic I have the displeasure of dealing with some of these weirdos every year.
I've watched a few and loved them, watched a few and didn't like them. A friend of mine gave me the set of Evangelion which is what he watched as a 12 year old and hooked him. It got me into it. I've also seen Claymore and Black Lagoon and a few others, but I can't get into Bleach at all. Anyway, I haven't watched in ages as that was the friend who deleted me from his life and it's just not the same anymore.

In Japan, Dragon ball z is being re-aired in HD and being cut from 291 episodes to 100 and focuses on the manga-based material. I've seen a few episodes and its a massive improvement. The US dubs bad acting, bad cuts and censorship really stand out
The only anime I've liked in recent years is 'Hunter x Hunter', it's a head and shoulders above any other anime tv show I've seen. I liked it so much I checked out other shows like 'Full metal alchemist' and 'Naruto', but neither one held my attention. 'Spirited away' and 'Princess mononoke' are two of the best movies I've ever scene regardless of genre.
Whats an anime thread without a youtube compilation video set to nu-metal? This is Hisoka, the main antagonist in Hunter x Hunter:

The only thing the US ones had going for it were the voices were actually quite good IMO, better than the Japanese ones and I prefer the Japanese voices in every other anime I watch.
The new one's called Dragonball Kai, been watching it. If you've never seen Dragonball or Dragonball Z though you'll be totally lost, they cut a lot of stuff.

Naruto's not bad once you get into it, the moral stories are wielded like a club rather than a blade, they beat you over the head with it, but some of the fighting sequences are pretty cool.
Witch Hunter Robin, Samurai Champloo and Ergo Proxy are some others I've seen lately and liked.
Avatar: The Last Airbender was very cool as well, directed more towards kids but I really liked it.

If you have a chance, you should check out Kurokami the Animation (Aka Black God) - great anime and there is a dubbed version available. There are a lot of free anime sites which stream subbed anime (currently episode 20 is released). It is a great new Anime.
Almost finished watching Ranma - great, classic series.
Bleach and Naruto Shipputan are both really good. Bleach is super slow in the beginning but really does pick up.
Code Geass - If you watch one anime, you should watch this one. One of my All time favorites.
Claymore was really good as well.
Also, Black and Red, you are on my ignore list, so please don't bother responding to me.

Naruto and Hunter x hunter are really similar shows centered around young, energetic boys discovering their own abilities in a fantisized version of our world. This is pretty common in manga/anime.
Hunter x Hunter just felt classier and grittier to me. It is great at creating really absurd scenarios for the characters and force them to use logic and deduction in solving their problems. There's no deux ex machina to save the day, the consequences are real and lasting. I'd rather watch/read HxH multiple times and appreciate it further than get into Naruto (no offense).
I'm surprised the anime community doesn't celebrate HxH. I was at the UofC during the convention (unrelated) and there was noone dressed up as a HxH character. Maybe the authors illness keeps the output so inconsistent is a turnoff, its still going to be a long time untill Gon meets his father...
