The things is, had those 4 others players, or any other combination of them been there and were able to participate, the series of events that lead to the exact timing of the purchase of the winning lotto ticket would have changed. I am assuming the numbers were randomly generated by the machine (quick pick) and those are generated by an internal clock in the computer system. So even a second later, a totally different set of numbers would have been printed on the ticket. So basically the 4 other players didn't really miss out on anything. But try telling them that right!
