Jones is a low round goaltender, Bradford isn't much. You gave up nothing for 7 spots up in a solid draft. IMO there's no business in the Jackets making this trade.

Jones has a lot of potential. Out of 118 games total in the WHL (regular season/playoffs) he has only lots 20 games. Sure he is playing on a VERY good hitmen team but it still takes some sort of skill to win 98 games in the WHL.

Dustin Tokarski won a lot of games in the WHL and was still a 5th Rounder.

I just don't think the players involved in the trade warrant a jump up into the Top 12 of this draft.

The Bruins haven't exactly been burning up the phone lines attempting to sign Bradford, which they have to do by August 15th or he's a free agent.

He also broke his arm not once but twice last season, and only played 5 games while BC went on to win the NCAA championship. Also he's only 5'9" which makes it that much more unlikely that he'll make it.

According to hockeydb, Bradford did play 37 games for BC last year and scored 25 goals. I'm in no way a big fan of this deal, but in comparison to the trade where Columbus traded Kris Versteeg for Miika "who the hell are you again" Wikman, this looks like a steal.

Risebrough Candidate?

Seriously, you think 4 PROSPECTS all of them long ways away from being a sure thing are the worst deal you've seen so far this off-season? Than since you've got me tangled with the ex-LA GM, i dunno why? I wasn't trying to throw games. Is that what you're referring to? I'm LOST

Anyways, I think you're just sad cuz of no wheeling and dealing in Dallas, get a hold of me on msn and i'll give you a deal.

Thats all I have to say.

oh btw, theres more than 2 months before August 15th + Id like to know your connections that are telling you the Bruins aren't burning up the phone lines to get him signed. Some inside info, maybe they can tell me if they'll re-sign Kessel or not as well.

To me the reaction to this deal is majorly overblown. He isnt moving 7 spots into the top 10 or more importantly the top 7 in this draft. I think the top 7 are great players but after that I see a big drop off.

So the difference from 12-19 is not a huge one, sure it is a nice improvement but he gave up 2 prospects. This isnt an earth shattering deal like we used to see in LA. Philly also doesnt throw games so that comparison isn't realistic. Sure I like this more for the Flyers but at the end of they day both teams have 1 rd picks and 1 guy has 2 prospects that I guess some people hate.

I would expect this type of reaction had he moved from 19 to 7 or better but 12..... don't think it is a big deal at all.

Well why didn't they give him an AHL tryout after Boston College was eliminated and get him some AHL games? Then if he performed well, he'd get an entry level deal. The Bruins farm team is right down the road in Providence.

Maybe cuz he hadn't signed a contract yet?

Sometime they cant agree on a deal? many prospects go back into the draft. That happens sometimes ya know.

One of the reasons Schum gets these deals done is he's out there making a ton of offers...this is nowhere near as bad as many other deal we see go down all the time. We are projecting prospects and picks that are all 3-5 years away from being a player in our league.

In short - meh.

OK so I decided to move down 7 spots in the draft and now I am trying to ruin my team? Excuse me but WTF?
I was looking at my spot and there were a couple of guys that interested me but everyone that I was really hoping for were probably going to be taken in the top 10. There may have been a chance that one may have dropped to 12 but more likely then not they would be gone. So I looked at 10-15 and yes they are good as well but nobody that really jumped out and screamed pick me. So I decided to take the offer drop down. By doing this I get Martin Jones. He has seen his last game as a Hitman so he will be going to the Kings farm and lets face it with the goalie depth in LA he could very well make the team soon. Yes he had an amazing record on an outstanding team but he has been very consistent throughout his career for the Hitmen. He has been one of the top goalies in the league for the past two years since he became a starter. But hey I guess that just means that he is going to suck and his prime is behind him.
As for Brock Bradford sure last season he only scored 5 points, but then again that was only in five games. Sure he had his arm broken twice that year but sometimes luck is not on your side. This season he 42 points in 37 games which is pretty horrible, I am not sure how he shows his face in that locker room, especially when the next closest person was 15 points behind him. Plus he only finished 5th in his league in scoring, brutal. But I guess my biggest mistake was not checking with the board to see if the Bruins were interested in signing him. If I would have known that they had no interest in him I would have called the whole thing off.

Well that is it for now, I have a team to run into the ground and try my hardest to take the first pick next year where I can trade it away for a couple 3rd rounders.

I agree with you Superflyer. You picked up two decent prospects for 7 spots. That impact is 3-4 years away no matter who "wins" this deal.

You guys bring up some interesting points. I was in the camp of not loving this, but I suppose when you are trading prospects and picks for different picks, we don't know how the hell this trade will end up turning out.

The trade at least made for good discussion!

And I completely agree with Grant, the reason Da_Chief is able to get so many deals done is because he's constantly trying to make trades. Sure, some offers are lowball offers but all of us are guilty of that.

This seems like a huge reaction for a minor trade, I stated early that I didn't like it but I didn't know the 2 prospects, I am still in that boat, but for 99% of the trades out there I like it for one side over the other but that doesn't make it a rape job. If the jackets dropped out of say the top 7 to 19 then I would be WTF, but drafting is such a crap shoot for the most part what odds if a team drops 7 spots, maybe they are eying someone who will still be available then.

FLYERS TRADE ALL-STAR STEVE OTT

Thats right, the crown jewel has been moved. Sorry to all who kept inquiring about him. Especially Blues. You'll have to get him from the Rangers now. Also going to the Rangers is a 2nd detroit pick in 2010.

Coming to Flyers are rights to Chris Drury.
