Nice analogy.

Why do you find that hard to believe?
Muslim faith allows no birth controll, nor divorce - if im not mistaken. That means a child every 2 years or less. A woman has approximately 26 child bearing years (and remember this group marries young). That is 13 children with no twins.

For the record, I have been with my wife 14 years, and have 8 children - no twins.
No I am not Muslim, and I am from European heritage.

Edit : I stand corrected. As a couple posters below with better knowledge of Muslim beliefs have posted below, Divorce is allowed, and birth control is at best controversial.

Where do you get that from?
In 500AD, Christianity was still struggling to survive amongst pagan Romans and Barbarian invasions. More the latter by that time I would think, as Rome was sacked in 410 IIRC.

Me thinks you are just spewing popularist rehtoric.

They are allowed to divorce and nothing in their religion says they cant use birth control. Thats catholism you're referring to.

I'm going to get absolutley flamed for this, but a large portion of the difference between replacement fertility and the the fertility rates of Europe and Canada is aborted babies.

The Canadian ratio is about 30 abortions per 100 live births

Just more generally that suggesting change in religious popular belief back then was more a result of brutality, force and regimes.

Constantine certainly can be thanked for really giving Christianity the help it needed to develop under a feared empire, albeit near its end.

Interesting that it is only accidental pregnancy that has kept evolution going. As soon as we were given a choice on whether or not to have kids we make bad decisions for sustaining our society.

From what I understand, the birth control issue in Islam is still widely debated. It is not forbidden, but not something that is "good". Many clerics disprove and discourage it. There is no central authourity in Islam, so whether or not it is accepted can be a matter of regionalism.

Or, he could have been referring to other Christian puritan sects, such as; Amish and some conservative evangelical protestant groups.

Actually, the Muslim faith does allow divorce. AFAIK, birth control is considered OK in interpretations, any form of sterilization is not allowed...
