Technically isn't this more of an "E" than an "B&E"?

I came home from vacation a couple of weeks ago and discovered my $1,000 bike missing from my garage. I was really pissed. I'm upset because some low-life entered my garage and stole my precious bike. I call my son a week later (he'd been at the house) to ask if he had left the garage open. No, why, he says. Because some low-life got in and stole my beautiful bike, I say. Oh, I borrowed it. It's at my house, he says. WTF? I'm still pissed, that he didn't tell me. But at least I have my bike back.
I feel for you for having your car entered. Years ago someone broke into my van and stole my stereo system. I'm still not over it.

In addition to identity theft, they could take your garage door opener and get fairly easy access to your house based on the information contained in those documents.

I lived in Braeside. Somebody shot out my back window with a slingshot and they also broke into my wife's car and stole her stereo, sub, amp, etc. As soon as that pub opened in the little shopping plaza on Southland that neighbourhood went to $h!t.

I've always maintained that liars, petty thiefs and vandals should be branded on their foreheads. You know, brand "Liar" on a liar's forehead, "Vandal" on a vandal's forehead, "Thief" on a petty thief's forehead. Just to warn society when they're dealing with such punks.

Best idea ever.
I forgot one other Braeside experience - some POS scratched into my wife's hood "I own Braeside" with a piece of chalk. He may not have meant to scratch the paint, but he did.

I am an old hat at being broken into. I used to have an old Toyota Tacoma and a buddy once said that would be a target.....
In one week stretch I had the back sliding windows busted out, just pulled the glass and left it open as it was summer. Two days later guy punches out the lock on the driver side door, glass still removed from back window. And two days after that some one punches out the driver side window! This all happened from a Monday to a Friday in one week. My truck was open the whole time. By this point I had already be broken into 14 or 15 times over the past 3 years so the truck was empty and open!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love downtwon vancouver...
It sucks to get broken into but it is funny how you can come to except it and actually blame yourself when it does happen.

I am in Cedarbrae and I had the same thing happen a couple of weeks ago. I did report it and the Police were grateful. The oiks took my Ford Explorer handbook - plus loose change but threw everything else in the car all over the place. I am glad I am the age I am as they weren't interested in my Carole King or Matt Monroe CD's! My fault for not locking my car but aggravating anyway. I have always felt pretty safe around here.

That would work too, but branding would hurt 'em more and be more dehumanizing.

In my community there's a young black guy that drives around the community once a week and prowls through everyone's vehicles, sometimes breaking windows.
A lot of us know who he is, and have an awesome plan for this little punk. The plan is to get a picture of him off facebook or whatever, then we're going to make big posters that basically just state who he is, and what he does in our community, then make literally hundreds of copies, and post them on every single street in the community.
It's going to be all kinds of awesome. Especially because he is very visible in our community, he plays street hockey and basketball at the rec centre all the time, goes to the neighborhood pubs, and is just generally out and about a lot. Plus, I'm pretty sure he's the only black person in our community, and no, I'm not being racist, I'm just stating that it makes him stand out more, especially to those that don't know him, but see the posters.

I drove down to Seattle for a week of concert-going etc... and left my car in a secured, patrolled lot for a few days. I felt some sense of false security, so I left a few bulky things in the back seat. Mostly crap, like my old sleeping bag. I go back to the car after a few days to check on something and my back passenger window is smashed out. I looked all over, hoping they didn't shoot up or take a dump in my backseat. All the scumbag did was drink a bottle of cough syrup and steal my sleeping bag.

My car got broken into downtown Calgary a few months back. Smashed window. Stolen backpack, iPod, etc. Be grateful you didn't have any damages or lose anything of value.

My insurance company recommended I hide the insurance info under the floor mat in the back seat because they have so many smash and grabs on the documents for the reasons already mentioned (identity theft). Works really well until you need those documents and completely forget that they are in your back seat and not your glove box.

I was having a discussion with a friend yesterday who used to work with the police addressing security and break in issued for condo/apartment parkades etc.
He was telling me that they would encourage people to leave nothing of value in their cars and actually leave the doors unlocked. I'm now considering doing this. I couldn't care less if thieves look in my car, find nothing and leave. A broken window on the other hand is both angering and expensive.
Does anyone know if having your insurance/registration in there is a security threat. That's the only thing important that I keep in my car that I need to lock up for.

Did you have any extension cords in your car? I hear they are a high priority item in thefts.
