I should start keeping track again.

I drive a 2008 Saturn Outlook FWD, 3.6L V6. I split about 70/30 city/deerfoot. A couple days ago, I got 557km out of 67L which I think works out to 12L/100km. The warning light had just turned on. That's the best I got out of the car so far. I figure I could push 600km if I didn't have a heavy foot. Haven't gotten a reading for highway yet, since the farthest I drive to is Edmonton.
Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised. It is a standard as well which helps a little bit I believe.

Standards General get better mileage than Autoatics.

OT a bit, but I was told your car runs optimally between 1/4 tank and 3/4 tank - any ChemE's want to confirm or deny? I was told that by a ChemE once, and I've been faithfully following ever since.

I've been getting sub-8 L/100 km in city driving... Lower on the highway, but haven't tracked that properly yet.

I get 27 MPG (Canadian Gallons) in the city; which is almost bang on 10L/ 100km. Makes it easy to see how I'm doing week to week with that easy math; if I drove 425 km I should only be putting 42.5 litres in the tank.

Highway I get 35-42 MPG. The huge fluctuation has to do with uphill/ downhill and speed. I figure I lose 10% economy just going from 110 to 120.

This is in a 03 Grand Am with a 3.4L V6.
I have kept track of my 04 Grand Am's economy since I got it 5 years ago in an excel spreadhseet.

I also do mine in km/L instead of miles/gallon, but I get the same values as you, about 10km/L (it's also about 10 L/100km if you prefer that).

I dislike the short range the car has (<600km on the highway) but otherwise it's decent economy for what it is.

Well, with less fuel the car has less weight. A litre of gas weighs around 1 kg.

But then the optimal would be < 1/4 tank- so I guess that isn't it.

Yeah, I was told it was a balance between weight, completeness of combustion and a few other factors.

I keep very close track of my fuel economy, but then again I keep track of pretty much everything about my car. Every time I fill up, I note the mileage, miles per gallon on that current tank, type of fuel put in(octane, what brand, etc), where the station is located, and I note how hard I drove on that tank of gas.

I've found that with Shell 89 octane, if I don't get on it too much, I average about 17mpg consistently. I range anywhere from 15.3mpg to just over 19mpg.

And just because I'm proud of her ...
