I have to respectfully disagree.

Maui Jim and Serengeti both use a glass lense, while Oakley does not. I have owned all three, in the highest range of glasses all three make, and the visual clarity of Maui Jim and Serengeti is more clear and crisp than Oakley. Personally, I prefer the Serengeti because I find the blue tint of the anti reflective coating on the Maui Jim's a little to intrusive. You really notice the visual clarity while driving, especially in a long range rural environment of both the Maui Jim and Serengeti's. I know I wont drive with any other brand.

Now, Oakley does have some advantages, as you pointed out. The definately have great style, and a ton of different looks to chose from. Also, being a plastic lens has some advantages; they are more durable, and therefor great from something like sports.

Which sunglass I choose depends on what the use will be. For driving, it's Serengeti, for sports it is generally Oakley. Everyday outdoor wear comes down to whether or not I need the durability of the Oakley's or the visual clarity of the Serengeti.

Hey M-Q-S, I know how you can help everyone. I know I'd appreciate it if you were wearing this the next time we get together.

See if this little baby comes with UV lenses.

Sir Elton helped Eninem quit drugs, and he will help you find the coolest sunglasses.

Where do you guys buy Sunglasses in Calgary? I bought a pair of Smiths about 6 years ago and I'm looking for a new pair.

If I go and find a pair in the Sunglass hut or something and then search for them on ebay am I more than likely just going to be getting ripped off on an imitation pair?

This.

Actual glass in sunglasses scares me. Add me to the Oakley fanboy club. I have owned 5 different pairs and my glasses are Oakley as well. The have a lifetime warrenty on the frame. If something happens to them you only have to pay to send them back.

I stepped on a pair of mine I had left in a jacket pocket and cracked the frame. I had owned them for about 3 years. $25 and a few weeks later and I had a new frame sent back to me with the same lenses.

The 'O-Zone' in Market Mall has a really good selection.

I know Sunglasses Hut has Oakleys, Maui Jims, Ray Bans, and some other brands, but not Serengeti (that I've seen). Where do I find those?

Edit: According to the Serengeti website, Sunglasses Hut is supposed to sell them, but the one in South Centre doesn't appear to. I'll have to look elsewhere.

If anybody is a cheap SOB like myself that can't justify $200+ on a pair of Oakley's (even though I really like them), my last pair of sunglasses I bought were from Winners. Point Zero was the brand and they were $13. They have the orange lenses like the Oakleys that I like that cut out the glare, and make colours stand out better. (Especially greens.)

Just me, but I hate Oakleys. Bring a chick, she will help.

Whatever you do - do not buy a sporty pair of sunglasses, unless you need them for sports.

I am pretty sure no guy has ever been hit on by a girl while wearing typical Oakleys.

Go to vegas. Get loaded. Play craps. Dump all your winnings into a pair of glasses that cost more than a mortgage payment.

Get contacts and oakleys. Every other pair of sunglasses I ever owned I either lost or broke within 4 months of purchasing. The oakleys I have now are going on maybe 8 years and are just now starting to get a little worn. I was skeptical of spending so much on sunglasses and wouldn't have again if I had lost the oakleys right away but they've survived. Either that or find some other fairly indestructible pair unless you're super careful at all times with your sunglasses.

lol

True enough, Oakley makes great, functional sunglasses.....but everyone seems to own a pair .... but that's because they're so darn good .... but then again, that makes them a bit boring.

I agree, if you need "performance" sunglasses, they rock. I use them when I drive, ride my motorcycle, play tennis, etc., however, if I'm rocking the patio or something, it's the poseur Pradas all the way. Not sure if they block out "100% of UV RAYS!!!!" or not, but they look sweet.

one more Oakley plug...

the purpose of sunglasses is to keep light, and more importantly, UV out of your eyes...and to look cool.

Oakley's lenses are UV impregnated. the polycarbonate that they use is 100% UV protected. this applies to ALL their lenses, regardless of colour or tint.

some of the others, have a "UV coating". this means, after a few routine wipes, the coat will wear off.

myth: the darker the lens the better. WRONG! a darker lens will open up your pupils, therefore letting in more light and UV. because of this, a cheap dark pair of sunglasses with UV coated lens will basically be worse for your eyes than not wearing sunglasses. this is why it is important to have UV protection in the lenses and not on the lens.

yes, Oakleys are expensive! but, with their XYZ technology, UV protection, impact protection...and stylish looks, they are worth it. my eyes are important, i would rather spend the extra money now and not have to deal with cost/agony of surgery later. and no, i do not work for oakley...yes, i have done a lot of research on sunglasses (as well as other things before i purchase).

if you keep losing/braking your sunglasses, then it is obvious that you are in it for style. they are not on your face. if you wear glasses, you know what i mean. you always know where your prescription glasses are, because you need them and they serve a purpose other than fashion.

sorry for the rant.

Now mine are fairly expensive but I've never met anyone else with the same pair of Oakleys that I have, especially the lenses. Mine don't even say Oakley on the bridge and the O on the side isn't really an O.

I also second the O zone. I've bought lenses there as well as the screwdriver needed to switch lenses and they've always been very helpful.

One thing to keep in mind is that Oakley has SO many different varieties, many of which aren't even listed on their site because they are a few years old. If you look hard enough you can find just about any pair you want.

And yet another Oakley plug...

I don't care what anyone says, there is no other sunglass manufacturer that can compete with the torsion control you get with a pair of Oakleys.

I bought my first pair, the R-11's, about 6 years ago, when they were still infusing the lenses with lebdium. True, it's not as effective as the XYZ and does add a few micrograms, but I still rock 'em on the weekend. I've got a newer pair (Threats) that I wear during the week. They are awesome.

I've tried other brands and they just can't compete. Either the filter isn't strong enough, the arms not wide enough or the nosepiece rides too high.

I drive a convertible Sebring, so I needs me some good glasses lol.

Dude, it's your eyesight. Your never going to get another one. Spend the extra money.

Holy Crap. Torsion control, libidio, xyz and micrograms....

We're talking about sunglasses right? I don't even know what any of that means (other than expensive)

Does any of that stop my 3 year old from sticking them down a heat vent?
