a fair bit of my practice is immigration law.
Stories like this happen all the time, so it wouldn't take much for a particularly desperate or devious temporary foreign worker could hear the story from a friend, insert employer here, and go with it.
The one caregiver who was only there for a few days.....that one strikes me as quite suspicious. It makes sense to me that an MP who is in and out of town, would have someone else hire, make arrangements, etc for a caregiver, even if it was for your house. They didn't get along, had a fight, big deal. Get over it. I don't put a lot of weight into it.
The other one though....... that one seems to ring a bit more true. I'm interested to see how this turns out.
I have zero tolerance for employers who treat their tfw like crap. Zero. I have equally little tolerance for tfw who cry wolf though as well. It happens as well.

Really people think she is good-looking?
Maybe a case of looking good because she hangs around with old men and ugly chicks all the time. Because I have yet to see a picture of her looking good.
Anyways, the stories sound pretty legit and her defense of no I didn't isn;t overly strong.
She doesn't really seem like that great of a politician that the Conservatives would need to create a scam like this to discredit her.

Her answers at the hearing were not very supportive of her.
When asked if she lived at the house, her response was:
"I visit the home," she said, citing a busy work schedule, waving airline boarding passes as evidence of her whereabouts at particular times being discussed.
However, after prodding by parliamentary secretary Rick Dykstra, she conceded it was also her residence.
Then she try's to suggest that this is all a big politial attack on her with this comment.
Dhalla hinted that a political conspiracy was behind the nannies' stories. She said she saw Immigration Minister Jason Kenney with her Conservative opponent at a recent Sikh parade in her riding.
So I guess the Immigration Minister is not allowed to support local ridings now and attend multicultural events?

I wasn't exactly convinced of her answers either. She seems to be trying to shift the blame to her brother and that they weren't her employees either.
But they did work at her house, and they suppossedly cleaned up her clinic.
Then she tries to spin this thing into a evil conservative plot.
I think she's fairly burned one way or another.

Definate Butterface.
It just seems weird that a politician would turn "snakehead" on these 2. While politicians are scum, they at least have a very good sense of survival and snakeheading 2 young women doesnt seem to be very good survival techniques IMO.
Likely these 2 woman are looking for a payday. They have seen the North American dream and it exists via 1 of 3 things (or a combination)
1 - lying.
2 - blackmail
3 - litigation

I have a strong feeling that both sides are not telling the truth. It appears to me that they were both trying to figure out how to take advantage of the other. Is it possible in the Canadian legal system to convict both parties? It should be.

Just from seeing what my fiancee went through with her first employer, and what many of her friends have also gone through, it does not surprise me that eventually some government official might also be exploiting these women.
There was a feature a while ago on a show out of Toronto about exploited nannies, and some of them were treated somewhere between slaves and servants.
Hopefully if nothing else this brings these situations into the front page of the news; so hopefully fewer people will be exploited in the future.

First let me say that I basically no nothing about the facts here (and maybe nobody does after the news article I saw last night!).
That being said I think that the reason she is saying that they were employees of her brother is because the employment contract and such were between her brother and the caregivers. I wouldn't exactly call that shifting the blame...

From what I'm understanding from the testimony, they were working out of her house. If thats true and they were polishing floors and shoe collections then its irrelevant who the contract is with. She's an MP, she knows the laws and rules.

They were supposedly paid cash too, which makes it convenient for Ruby to deny the employment contract was with her.
She's a politician, so she's lying. Nothing new to see here.

According to Michael Ignatieff she did employ the women.
"I think Ruby made a vigorous defence of her integrity, her honour and her treatment of these – the people in her employ."

She is strikingly handsome, but I am not sure that is what most guys look for in a woman.
Daymond Langkow might approve, though.
