It only makes sense when you really think about it. Few things exude as much class as a waterfall in a shopping mall. You wouldn't want to cheapen things up with a gas station.

Re: the gas station: I believe the station proposed and rejected for Aspen is going to be built across the street from an existing gas station in Cougar Ridge instead, and will include a car wash also. The residents of CR weren't really impressed with this. Including the Co-op, this will put 3 gas stations and 2 car washes within a few blocks of each other in WSCR. It is OK for the WSCR area to have 3 gas stations but Aspen was too good to have just 1 in their area.

Re: The waterfall. It is somewhat cheesy looking at the moment, but there is also a large pond across the street from the mall, and I think there is an opportunity for some nice patio restaurants in that location (full sun exposure with a view of the two ponds), but I have a feeling the developer will screw it up somehow.

Re: Ice Cream. Rumour has it that Marble Slab will open up in the mall too, so I'm guessing Fiasco will die quickly.

Yeah, you don't want to many gas stations around, yet have 2 Shoppers Drug Marts 3 minutes from each other

So, the Shoppers and the Edo opened today. Having the Edo around is exciting in a pathetic kind of way. The Shoppers, however, is totally redundant.

Anyway, the gas station rumour seems to be false. They appear to be building a gas station next to the Safeway.

Pfft, if it isnt in Malzac, it ain't a real mall!

Speaking of malls, they are opening an Indigo in the Shepard Regional Centre soon. This pleases me, as I dislike having to go to Shawnessy to buy books. Now I'm within walking distance.

What's the Shepard Regional Centre? That name sounds like it would be the name of a correctional facility or something like that.

Judging by some of the punks that run around here at night, it could be. It's the shopping area on 130th Ave - where the southern Hockey Life store is.

Just like every other power centre in this city: All the stores you want (except a Burger King, grr), only one useful route in or out.

Ah, didn't realize that mall had an actual name.

Is the Shawnessy Burger King the only one left?

There are basically two BKs left in all of the south half of Calgary - Shawnessy, and the overpriced one at the theatre in Chinook.

There's also one on 17th Ave SE. And yeah - is that BK in the Chinook theatre not ridiculously overpriced or what?!

I went to Shoppers today, it was RAD. There were only a few customers. Not sure why there are two shoppers within walking distance (although a long walk).

I did buy the sports forecaster! That made my summer!

How is it overpriced? I thought that prices should be the same at fast food franchises.

Sorry, by "this place", I meant Aspen Landing. That way, I don't have to drive 35 minutes across town one-way for the greatness of Nando's Chickenland.

Lady Bug Cafe was a huge disappointment to us. The service was amongst the worst we've ever experienced. We were hoping to have a nice neighbourhood cafe which we could go to regularly but it will be a long time before we return to that place, if at all. It took them 45 minutes to make two open sandwiches and they completely forgot about the coffees. After asking them several times where our breakfast was they finally brought them out and they were stone cold. Apalling. They weren't even apologetic about it. Hopefully they're better now but with all the options out there I doubt we'll be giving them another chance.

I hear that there will be two new cafes opening up in the new shopping mall in Springborough (right by Ambrose University) so I look forward to checking those out.

Really happy that Safeway, Cobbs, and M&M Meats are opening up in Aspen also. Don't have to go to Westhills anymore!

Lol, there's a sneak preview to a grocery store opening? Gee, I wonder what is different between this Safeway and every other Safeway in the city.
