I dont think the bold is currently available on Telus. From what I have heard there is no plans that it will be even in the future.

Yeah I didnt see it on the Telus website.

Alright, so I think Pearl is out, its between Curve and Storm at this juncture. Unlimited data plan? What kind of data are we talking about here?

I've just had a regular phone so I've never had need of a data plan.

Unlimited data will handle web surfing, emails, texting, and Blackberry Messenger. If you know anyone else that has a Blackberry you will love messenger. I have a number of close friends that have messenger and once we started using it my phone bill went down substantially. But with the amount of data (email and texts) I was using, I switched to unlimited data. I believe its fairly inexpensive to do and I have found it quite productive.

Cool. Text and Email are the biggest reasons I'm making the switch so it sounds reasonable.

Where is a good place to go to do this deal? I'm still under contract technically I think, but I should be able to switch all this nonsense about.

If you don't need to make the purchase right away, wait for the BB Tour 9630 (formerly Niagara). It is supposed to be available with Verizon by the 13th of July. Lots of speculation that it will be released before that with Telus. Although there is nothing concrete to prove this. It is basically a mix of the Bold, Storm & curve. It will have a qwerty key board with a processor similar to the Storm. The key board is supposed to be the best one yet from BB. Wifi is still up in the air. I find with the unlimited data plan from Telus that wifi isn't really necessary for me personally. I am eligible for a free upgrade and I am waiting for the Tour.

Currently I have a Curve 8330 which is by far the best device I have ever owned. If I were you I would stay away from the Pearl. To me it seems it is geared more towards teenagers instead of business use. The Storm is a complete disaster. I don't know anybody that likes it and I know over a half dozen people that have it. But don't take my word for it. Head to http://crackberry.com/. You will see many posts and threads from hardcore BB fans who are absolutely disgusted with the Storm. Many of them are salivating over the release of the Tour.

Also somebody else in the thread mentioned the Javelin. I do believe that the next generation of BBs that are coming with optical trackballs. The first of the series will not support 3G, Evdo.

Any telus store should be able to help you. I know they used to have promotion that if you switch you a blackberry you only paid like $50 and had to sign a new contract and you could get it done.

Is this because you are a Platinum Perk Member?
I am and used to get one free phone every year. It used to be completely free. I went in for my free phone this year and they said it was changed and now you dont get it free anymore. You have to pay the same rate as anyone else but you get to renew earlier.
Anyone else heard of this? I havent called in to them yet. Just curious if anyone else has had the same experience.

I would either wait on the Javelin, or get a curve, both are great phones, the only thing to consider would be if you were going travelling around the world with it.

Yeah. I wasn't aware of having to pay this time. Might have to check into that. They told me last year that I would get a free phone every year from now on. Still, if I have to pay the three year subscription price that won't be so bad. Unless they want $299 for it. Then I might have to think about it. There is nothing wrong with my Curve. Would be nice to get a better camera with the Tour, but not essential.

Tour will have CDMA data with GSM voice I believe. I'm not very knowledgable about tech stuff. From what I understand this will be the case. Although I could have it wrong. Tour will have the capability to use around the world though or at least on GSM networks.

Yeah, I have gotten a 100% free phone for the last 3 years. Now i went in and thought I would try the Storm for free and if I didnt like it I would switch back to my curve. Then they told me it would be $250 for it. Ummm....NO!

For my Blackberry, I don't need unlimited data, but obviously that depends on your planned usage.

I had a 1G BES data plan before for work email, but never, ever got even close to the 1G of data I was allowed to use... I usually hover around 200MB and that's a max. If you plan to stream video, then you may want to go to the 1G of data but if you aren't going to be on Youtube, etc. you really don't need the unlimited data.

I browse quite a bit, use Blackberry messenger, MSN, and emails and I still can't seem to crack the 250MB barrier... I was laid off recently so I downgraded to the 500MB data plan 'cause I just can't see myself going over.

I added my plan a LONG time ago. So I know my rates are different. What is the current price difference between unlimited and the other plans?

My old BES plan to get work email was $45 for 1G data.

I downgraded now to a 500MB BIS data plan for $25. They also have a 1GB BIS data plan for $30.

I don't see an unlimited data plan on their website... I'd be interested to see the amount of data other people use per month... unless you're tethering or on YouTube all the time, how much do you need really? Rogers has a 3GB data plan, but man, how the hell do you use 3GB each month?

With an unlimited plan you don't need to worry. Before Telus had the unlimited plan I would get some bills as high as $400. Usually it was a mistake on their part. Now with unlimited there is nothing to worry about and I use the net freely. From using navigation to following MLB games pitch by pitch. Or sending large video files of my kids to friends and family. Things like that. What do I actually use a month? I don't know. It must be a lot. I pretty much browse the net on my BB more than I do with a computer. If CP had a mobile site I would use the computer even less.

PS. I hear the Bold is pretty sweet. If Telus had it I would definately get one.

Is the Storm really that bad? I'm kind of leaning towards it because it seems to be able to handle everything I want to do and more, I understand that there were problems that got sorted out.

So I'd be looking at what? $45/month for a phone plan and then another $45/month for unlimited data? The Wifi is kind of nice.

I'm probably not going to wait for the Tour because I just dont need it, really. Obviously I want something that will do what I need and some neat extras but it has to be reliable.
