Oh no, I only judge on an individual basis. In terms of support and total warfare, Spetznas would be in big trouble.

After reading some after action stuff on JTF, I would like to see what they can do.

Still one of my favorite WWII units. It made for a good, if inaccurate movie

Quote:
It was at Anzio that the Germans dubbed the 1st Special Service Force the "Devil's Brigade." The diary of a dead German soldier contained a passage that said, "The black devils (Die schwarzen Teufel) are all around us every time we come into the line."[citation needed] The soldier was referring to them as "black" because the brigade's members smeared their faces with black boot polish for their covert operations in the dark of the night. During Anzio, the 1st SSF fought for 99 days without relief. It was also at Anzio that the 1st SSF used their trademark stickers; during night patrols soldiers would carry stickers depicting the unit patch and a slogan written in German: "Das dicke Ende kommt noch," said to translate to "The Worst is yet to Come", placing these stickers on German corpses and fortifications. Canadian and American members of the Special Force who lost their lives are buried near the beach in the Commonwealth Anzio War Cemetery and the American Cemetery in Nettuno, just east of Anzio.
Quote:
Post World War II special forces legacy
In 1952, Colonel Aaron Bank created another elite unit using the training, the strategies, and the lessons learned from the Devil's Brigade's missions. This force evolved into the Army Special Forces (Green Berets). In Canada, today's elite and highly secretive JTF2 military unit is also modeled on the Devil's Brigade. As in World War II, Canadian JTF2 members and American Delta Force members were united once again into a special assignment force for the 2001 invasion of Afghanistan. The 1st Special Forces Group traces its origins to the Devil's Brigade.

It's really difficult to to judge who is better since the Spetnaz and Green Beret fulfill different roles. It could really boil down to individual soldiers
Spetnaz are the Russian elite soldiers and mainly deal with direct action
Green Berets have an additional task of being a force multiplier. The idea being that you drop in a 10 man squad to meet up with a rebel force, and soon, the Berets will have trained up an army of 500.

Because Beret are warrior teachers, there skills may be more honed in a one on one battle. However, Spetnaz are also the most insane in the Russian army. Be a good battle

One of Canada's great warriors. Probably our version of Audie Murphy

This dude is hard

Department of National Defence, Ottawa. 3rd August, 1945.
THE CANADIAN ARMY.
The KING has been graciously pleased to approve the award of the VICTORIA CROSS to: —
No. B.39039 Corporal Frederick George TOPHAM, 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion.
On 24th March, 1945, Corporal Topham, a medical orderly, parachuted with his Battalion on to a strongly defended area east of the Rhine. At about 1100 hours, whilst treating casualties sustained in the drop, a cry for help came from a wounded man in the open. Two medical orderlies from a field ambulance went out to this man in succession but both were killed as they knelt beside the casualty.
Without, hesitation and on his own initiative, Corporal Topham went forward through intense fire to replace the orderlies who had been killed before his eyes. As he worked on the wounded man, he was himself shot through the nose. In spite of severe bleeding and intense pain, he never faltered in his task. Having completed immediate first aid, he carried the wounded man steadily and slowly back through continuous fire to the shelter of a wood.
During the next two hours Corporal Topham refused all offers of medical help for his own wound. He worked most devotedly throughout this period to bring in wounded, showing complete disregard for the heavy and accurate enemy fire. It was only when all casualties had been cleared that he consented to his own wound being treated.
His immediate evacuation was ordered, but he interceded so earnestly on his own behalf that he was eventually allowed to return to duty.
On his way back to his company he came across a carrier, which had received a direct hit. Enemy mortar bombs were still dropping around, the carrier itself was burning fiercely and its own mortar ammunition was exploding. An experienced officer on the spot had warned all not to approach the carrier.
Corporal Topham, however, immediately went out alone in spite of the blasting ammunition and enemy fire, and rescued the three occupants of the carrier. He brought these men back across the open and although one died almost immediately afterwards, he arranged for the evacuation of the other two, who undoubtedly owe their lives to him.
This N.C.O. showed sustained gallantry of the highest order. For six hours, most of the time in great pain, he performed a series of acts of outstanding bravery and his magnificent and selfless courage inspired all those who witnessed it

Also, it appears between it's inception and 1945 Canada won more VC's than anyone other country per capita

It always amazes me what people do when the sh%t flies. I mean I went through the training and deployments, and saw some interesting things. But I don't know if I could do the things that some of these guys have done.

Mostly I thought I was glad that I had an extra pair of combats in my rucksack.

Didn't feel so light to me carrying around 50 pounds of gear.

I still remember doing the winter training in 40 below dead of winter, not only pulling the dog sled. But setting up an ambush and lying there perfectly still for what seemed like hours.

I love all aspects of it except for winter. I could work well in the heat, or the rain. or even snow. But the extreme cold.

Yeah, nothing like digging a L trench when the grounds frozen. Hell there was nothing like digging an L trench in the middle of summer when the gound wasn't frozen.

I hated f$$king trenches.

It be neat to see if there is some kind of secret competition between the world's security forces. The CT Olympics

Event 1: Kill House Drill
FBI HRT vs Seal Team 6 vs Delta vs SAS-CT team vs GSG9 vs JTF2

I would totally watch that
