They received an "Interior Alterations" permit only.

No, I'm not sure at all about what the exact cause of the noise is. The seller's contractor did suggest that he thought the floor might have to be completely torn apart to repair it? I didn't put much stock in it since he was clearly high at the time.

Winnable or lost-cause case, I'm getting the floor fixed. Would you agree that things would be pretty heavily in my favor if I get a carpenter to tighten the subfloor to the joists and it does in fact fix the problem?

Would a 'buddy' carpenter be a bad choice to do this, and bring into court with me?
