I met my fiancee on E-harmony. We moved in totally different social circles (she's an actress, and I make video games), and live about 30 miles apart. I don't imagine we would have met had we not been matched. Dated for a year an half, and have never had it better. We just get along really easily. Proposed a few weeks ago.
I liked E-harmony because it had you do a lot of personality profile questions before it let you in. So it weeded out at least some of the loonies. And whatever matching software they used, it worked for us.
Anyhoo, lots of great women on there. Probably went on a couple dozen dates in the space of about 6 months. And it didn't cost a grand. More like a couple hundred I think.
Good luck!

Thousands of dollars for a dating service seems ridiculous. What if you meet the right guy on your first date?
I asked the girl this, and she said "obviously no refunds, otherwise we wouldnt be making money" but what they advise you to do is get them to put your account on hold during the times that you are seeing someone. Then call them back to reactivate it when you want to continue. She said people do it all the time.
You want a date and see what she looks like first? try this.
1)Write on the back of 10 of your business cards " I'm very shy but I think your very pretty, call me if your interested"
2)Go to Safeway,Sobeys..etc and find your dream ladies (check for rings)
3)Walk up and say "hi, i'm leaving my card in your cart"
Sound silly and crazy? I did this on a bet with a buddy and got 3 calls out of 7 cards (one call was 15 minutes later) and I dated 2 of the girls.
Hmm interesting approach. i would think most girls would be startled by this approach though, having some random guy walk up to them and hand them their card.
When I was in Athens, Greece - near the South West corner of Syntagamo square about one block south of the Internet Cafe down a side street and down some more stairs there was this thing called....
A disco. Then the next day it was a Jazz Club, then next a Dance Hall, then a Rave, then a theatre production.
Point being,
A whorehouse by anyother name (escort/dating service) is still a whorehouse.

Not if that card says "World's Greatest Ninja" and you have a picture of Naruto giving the thumbs up.

Was this kinda of by that building that had the guy with the rifle guarding it?

Agreed. What's the difference between the guy who spends $100 buying drinks for girls at the club, and the guy who spends $100 on a hooker? The guy who spends it on a hooker is a lot more efficient.
I had a friend who could go to the bar and usually end up going home with a girl every weekend when he wanted to. However, this guy liked the hookers because he didn't need to play any games to get what he wanted.
I don't have the stones to get a hooker but I certainly don't look down on those who do.
