I hypothesize that it's not the beer goggles that make the opposite sex appear more or less attractive.

Jokes aside yeah, they're nothing more then for entertainment value, I mean some of the things they do are pretty cool and can lend some insight into certain phenomenon, But other things make you go huh, how can people be so stupid as to believe this myth. Then again alot of people didn't believe a plane could take off of a treadmill.

I think it's more because people inhibitions and therefore standards go down as they drink.

You may realize she's the same state as when you saw her first in the evening, but you don't care as much.

But when you're rating people (or pictures) you have no chance of sleeping with anyway you can still make judgments that are similar to non drunk ones.
