So when does she start to get picked apart like Paul Potts was? I'm not a professional singing critic, so maybe I don't have the ear like some do, but that was pretty damn good.
Hard to tell for sure with the crowd noise.. Critically I thought she was pretty good, not as much emotion as I've heard in that song from some singers. She missed a few notes slightly.
But if she's untrained, that was quite amazing. I really would like to hear her sing some other things though, it could be that she's sat at home for 47 years and sang that song over and over to her cats all that time lol.

Just as a reference, and also in line with what photon said, here's Ruthie Henshall singing this same song from the Les Mis DVD. Granted, this is a seriously professional singer, so a difference is to be expected.
They should just keep the camera focused on that female judge. I would be OK with that.
Maybe when she has her on-screen orgasm at Paul Pott's crescendo but I like to watch Simon's smug look and then his surprise or his disgust. It's entertaining. It's better on the British shows too than American Idol which blows.

I liked that part of Paul Pott's performance the best
Paul Pott was good, but I still think Neal E Boyd on AGT more impressive, he's got more power behind his voice and ultimately thats what Pavarotti said about the best, if you have the power you can train it to become a amazing opera voice.

Every time I see that part of his performance, I think to myself that if Potts walks down, scoops her up, he could have his way with her in the back for hours. She was totally into him at that moment. Makes me want to learn how to sing.

She sang the song in a register that is just a wee bit low for her voice. She was off only on a few of the low notes, or where she had to go from higher to quite low.
This woman has tons more talent than Paul Potts. She has beautiful phrasing, her tone is very very nice to listen to and she has music in her soul and is able to project it to the audience and relate to the audience.
Has anyone heard much about Paul Potts lately? Yeah, he put out a CD and went on a tour, has done some commercials. You really think that will continue? Here is an example as to how some of his guest appearances went. He is singing with Lesley Garrett, one of the best sopranos England has ever given the world.
Ah, I don't care about how good he is to be honest. I like underdog stories, and I like stories where people prove everyone wrong. It's refreshing and heartwarming.
Well, I'm not usually a big fan of these shows, but I have to admit that was everything that's good about "reality entertainment".
No kidding. I must admit I've watched the clip three or four times today. The more I see it the more amazed I am. She has poise up there even when the crowd is just going bananas. She knows when to belt it out and delivers. The "cat lady" to "star". Not going to get tired of seeing that one for awhile.
I'll admit to watching America's got Talent last 2 seasons, I like it for those reasons that its usually true hidden talent, like last season Nothin' but strings, that beatbox chick Butterscotch, the tenor and a number of other cool acts.
I like its not just singers, you get a good variety and that guy who won 2 years ago Fader the ventriloquist was amazing.
The one nice moment last season was this guy who had literally had his vocal cords repaired, had to learn to talk again and then sing. He gets on stage and the crowd at the start is booing, he turns it up a notch and completely turns the crowd around and gets a standing ovation at the end.
why is it that "talent" is almost always singing? it seems that if you can sing, you have a better chance of winning the "got talent" shows.
the 'idol' shows already cover singing.
I think to be fair, this show is more about the actual talent while the "idol" show is as much about the looks, personality and age of the performer (there is an age limit right?).
For this show, it seems most singers, like the lady in the original post aren't always the best lookers but rather just great singers. Also, only 1 of the winners of this series won because of singing I believe.

This is why the talent shows are always better than the stupid idol shows.
The Idol shows - as Simon often says - are not singing contests. They are popularity contests to be pop stars. They are too concerned with marketing and image and youth and attractiveness, etc. to create that so called pop-star package.
The talent shows (althought still sometimes lame) are a lot more real and inspirational because these are real people and it doesn't matter how they look, dress, or how old their are if they really do have a genuine talent. It just happens that singing is one of those things that somehow supercedes all those vanities in us.
