Yikes! based on that story you may have ruptured a thumb tendon or damaged the sheath/pulleys that it tracks along. Out of curiosity, does your bruising and tenderness follow this tendon tract? (that's a right hand, seen from the palm side)

Don't waste a trip going to a walk-in-doctor; go to one of the main hospital ER's as you'll likely require an MRI/ultrasound followed by a plastic surgery consult. If you've torn the tendon, you'll need surgery semi-urgently - before the tendon scars over permanently!

Geez, dude, don't freak me out! I don't think it's that bad, the bruising doesn't run up my arm, it's contained on the top of my thumb and on the underside of my wrist beneath the thumb. I still have full mobility, it's just painful around that area. I'll be going to the doc today.

Plastic surgery?? I haven't been disfigured! Yet...

Get an xray. You need to rule out a scaphoid fracture as these do very poorly if not casted/splinted.

Went to the doc. He says just to ice it, and it'll heal. Nothing real serious wrong with it, as I thought, just a sprain. The bruising is likely from bursting some vessels as the original sprain had begun to heal, and I ended up making it worse. The pain, swelling, bruising isn't enough for a fracture.

Glad to hear you went and it appears to be not very serious. If it isn't feeling better in a week, though, I'd probably go back and get an x-ray. Hope it's better!

I'm glad it's not broken, or that I'll be requiring an amputation or plastic surgery!
