Obviously they had some differences with one another before the WJC, but as good competitors do, they put aside those problems for the good of the team.

Phaneuf is sounding like a steal more and more.
I think it was a set up between the players. "We're not teamates anymore. Let's prove it" sort of deal. Phaneuf sure plastered poor Getzlaf though later in the period

You are so right that he was a total steal at No.9. I'm willing to bet some teams would kill to swap their picks for Phaneuf now.

Kisio said Dions hit was from behind and he left his feet. Really made it sound dirty, never got to see it so for those who did... thoughts?

I just saw it. They are talking about in SportsCentre of all places. It was a hit from behind. Didn't look clean to me at all. I'm not sure if he left his feet though.

Definitely a hit from behind.

The Ladd-Phaneuf fight was set up in advance. Getzlaf said they were talking about it at the WJHC's.

Getzlaf also has a concussion, so I would imagine he is doubtful for tonight.

Hate to say it, but it was pretty iffy, at best.

I think Dion thought Getzlaf was going to turn around when he made up his mind to hit him, but Getzlaf never was facing him.

I know if Phaneuf got hit like that, I'd be pretty ticked.

Should be a great game tonight................

Just have to say I went to my first and most likely last Hitmen game... I came out very unimpressed... Very slow game, very unintense.. I don't know. I suppose I went in expecting more from seeing the WJC's from junior hockey but It was amazingly boring.

Not only that but I find it near impossible to get into the Hitmen, I tried throughout this lockout and it just didn't happen. and seeing a game live just iced it for me.

Seeing Dion was the highlight and near the 2nd half of the game found myself cheering for the Rebels for that reason alone, that and being in the dome, eating dome food and drinking dome beer made it an enjoyable night.

Flames hockey, or nothing as far as i'm concerned. *Prays the lockout ends*

I was at the game tonight as well. My second Hitmen game of the year.

Tonight's game was really lacking in intensity (quite the opposite from last night) and for the most part was quite boring. Couple things I noticed:

Hitmen players were not afraid to take Phaneuf on physically. The hit that Yakboscki (sp?) laid on him was great.

Pushkarev should learn how to pass. It was in the first or third period (can't remember, but it was in the end I was sitting) and he went around 2 players and just lost the puck because he decided to do too much. I will give him credit for going after Phaneuf a couple times tonight.

Festa was hearing it all third period from a few of the fans. Obviously from the long goal he gave up in the second. I will tell you though, it wasn't as bad as your average centre ice shot. My seat was right in line with the shooter and the goalie and I got a good view of the play. The puck hit only a few feet in front of Festa and took a very fortunate bounce (for Hitmen fans) and went right over his pad. 1 in a million

Lastly, despite being the president, Ken King still has to pay for his popcorn

I think the boys were a little tired from the night before's emotional matchup. Phaneuf looked ordinary, Ladd was invisible, didn't notice Fraser at all either (except for the nice screw up by the rink announcer, for the ceremonial faceoff, he called up Ladd and "Dion Phaneuf, captain of the Rebels. Pretty funny when Fraser skated to centre ice with the "c" on his jersey.)

The wrist shot flip in goal from centre ice was pure comedy. Other than that, it was a pretty boring game. Had some good friends to keep me company, so that made it enjoyable. But definitely not the best game I've seen this year.

oh, and the Hitmen were very lucky to get 2 points. The waved off goal in the first for the Rebels definitely looked like it crossed the line. I was behind the net when it happened, the ref was in a horrible spot. That and the weak centre ice goal sealed the deal.
