"How do you protect yourself from a man with two dildo's?"
I dunno... is that scene supposed to be parodying Monty Python's "How do you protect yourself from a man with two bananas?"
-=-=-=-=-
Cohen seems to continually fail at getting any kind of point across and I think he does more harm than good. You send a homophobe into this movie and he'll likely come out more firmly entrenched in his hatred. I don't THINK he meant to be just out for yuks here... homophobes were supposed to be the butt of the joke but I don't think it turned out that way.
And I don't see MRC as a superficial, meretricious, and crude. And that someone could conclude that a gay person is "like Bruno" based solely on sexuality is what scares me about this movie. People are going to extrapolate and stereotype based on this movie.
Cohen is a brilliant comedian and gets a lot of laughs. But I think he meant to go for more than that and that is where he fails, just like Borat failed to condemn misogyny and anti-Semitism.

I don't know, I just saw that part in the trailer. I am going to see the movie Sunday, as I work tomorrow. I never take anything out of a movie, so I don't care what message he tries to portray.
A bit off topic, but the best Ali G interview ever was the one with Beckham and Posh.
Haha nice, wow does he really push it here! Imagine him trying that with an NFL player and his wife? He woulda got his ass knocked out. I'm sure even a few NHL players woulda beat his ass for that, or at least told him to watch his mouth.

And had some NHLer or NFLer been in that position and acted like a ######, Sacha Baron Cohen is the master of accentuating how bad they look.
The Beckhams handled Ali G perfectly, and as a result, came off looking great. I mean, if you agree to be interviewed by a guy like Ali G, surely you would know you're in for some goofy and off-color stuff. Even if you didn't know Ali G was a fake caricature.

It's not based solely on sexuality. It's because he's in an environment where there are at least homophobic elements (let's face it, an Albertan hockey board is bound to have few - it's getting better but "gay" still gets tossed about as an insult every once and a while) and challenging people to deal with him by expressing his sexuality (in a much more tasteful way). And as a third party observer, it's funny to watch, even if the reactions I know he's got to be getting aren't caught on film.
Left out the explanation previously because it's tough to articulate, but I figured he'd understand.
While people like Sasha Baron Cohen have figured out that acting like a ###### appeals to the lowest common denominator, they haven't figured out that being a good comedian takes real skill.

You don't think it takes skill to be able to act the parts of Ali G, Borat and Bruno? Even if you put the characters aside and just watch the interview aspect of it all, the guy has skill. There's no doubting this.

Haha, yeah. They're also Brits though. Brits have a far more open-minded sense of humor than we do over here. Generally speaking, of course. All said, though, I thought Posh was amazing in this interview.

I never really thought her all that great looking before, but damn, that smile and little giggle she has going in this interview makes stuff go all tingly

I'm not dissing his ability to portray a character. I am saying he is not a good comedian.

That is totally missing the point of his ability. He's not the traditional stand up comedian. Cohen's skills are in his ability to use a real situation (at least to the other people) and make comedy out of their reactions to him. Sure the way he acts is often hilarious but his brilliance is in making the actions and reactions of other hilarious because they just don't know how to deal with him.
His movies aren't a proper representation of this because too much of them is staged. His HBO show is 100% real and ran for 2 seasons IIRC. Some of the best comedy I've seen in ages.

Just saw Bruno tonight. I thought it was freaking hysterical. Wow...if you can be offended by movies, I would probably discourage you from seeing it because it definitely is over the top.
Parents actually brought their kids to this movie (there were at least three or four kids who were around 10 years old in the theatre)...it was ridiculous...significantly more vulgar than Borat. I really enjoyed it.
From what I have heard/been told, there are a ton of male genitalia, some female genitalia (more men though, Bruno is gay), and it is much worse than Borat.
If you have to satisfy your curiosity, then go alone or with an adult who has a sense of humour. There were many parts that left me in stitches. Just know what you are walking into.
