Now that I think about it, maybe I should invest in some good shoes for ball hockey too. I'm 6'3" and about 235lb (and decreasing) and I play ball hockey on a wooden gym floor. Occasionally I may play on a cement floor, but almost always on your typical wooden gym floor. What kind of shoes do I look for? Running, cross training, something else?

Right now I'm using a cheaper pair of cross trainers that I bought a couple years ago, but since I'm looking at getting good footwear I may as well change both sets that I wear most often... ok, puxlut, maybe I am staring a shoe wardrobe!

I would get a good pair of basketball shoes.

My pair of New Balances are excellent. I wore the one pair during my entire Eurotrip (3 months), and they were rock solid, comfy, and my knees/feet were never in pain at the end of the day.

New Balance is the only brand I can really wear anyway, because my feet are so wide.

It's going to be summer soon. Get a pair of Keen sandals instead. They're fantastically comfortable.

softmoc.com often has sales on rockport shoes. Lots of selection and easy return policy. They also have brick and mortar stores here in calgary. Lots of selection and a lot/most of the brands mentioned are there. good place to do some research on different shoes.

I just got a pair of Vasque light hiking boots, which so far are really comfy. Just wearing them around the office this week to get them broken in a bit.

I swear by Doc Martens.

There is a guy at North Hill Mall that sells them, but he is almost reluctant to do so - the shoes last forever, so customers don't come back often for more shoes.

My vote goes to Ecco's, and Lacoste. I wore both of those all through Europe and I've never more comfortable shoes. The Ecco's were nice dress shoes and the Lacoste's were, well, Lacoste's. They're only really good for walking though...don't offer any ankle support whatsoever.

I have Born shoes right now, and I LOVE them. Also, a pair of Helly Hansen boots that I LOVE. Rockports are also great, BUT I've found that some of them have leather that doesn't breathe very well. Also, I find they HAVE to be broken in, whilst the Born were good from day one.

I want to like Ecco, but I can't find a pair that I like the looks of.

If you're looking for a pair of runners I recommend Asics...the Gel Nimbus' or the Kinsei's to be exact!
Asics technology consists of gel cushioning so they last a lot longer than Nike Air!

Took a peek tonight and tried on a few pairs. I've narrowed it down to two different pairs.

Ecco Fusion:
nice short link

And RockPort Beeya:
big long link

The salesperson thought Ecco had better support archs and were more durable. They were pretty comfortable. The Rockports had the cool movable air thingy, which made it a bit more comfortable, but I've broken a few Nike Airs before, so that makes me leary with Rockports movable air cushion.
