For me though, I'm goin Mexico because I'm dyin to see the Mayan ruins. I'm planning on going to Chichen Itza, Coba and Tulum. That's why Mexico wins out over the rest of the Caribbean for me. Once I've seen em though, I'm sure the next time I'll go elsewhere.
Try Panama, Costa Rica or Belize...lots of history and WAY better than Mexico.

Ya I was actually really trying for Belize or Honduras, as I'd love to see Tikal and Copan. But they dont seem to have anything at all in terms of All-Inclusive resorts, or flexible flight schedules, especially for an unorthadox 10-day trip(I know its easier to do full weeks, but one week's too short IMO and two weeks I cant afford).

I'm a student so I dont have much money to work with, so all-inclusives are my best bet for a long, 10 day vacation. So for me, Mexico's abundant amount of all-inclusives, combined with great Mayan cities like Chichen Itza, Tulum and Coba work best for me at this point in my life.

Thanks for the tip though, I'll definitely be trying to go to those places in later years. I really wanna go to Cuba before it gets all Americanized(like Mexico). Now with Castro gone, I think its only a matter of time before the trade embargo drops and Havana becomes a hotspot for American tourists again. And when that happens, that country is really going to transform, unfortunately.

Just had to bump this thread, as I have a question about something. So I'm lookin up combined flight/hotels on Expedia, and found some killer ones for a 10-day trip to the Mayan Riviera. We got our hotel basically picked, but haven't booked yet. Anyways, I'm seein from Calgary its $1468/person, which is pretty reasonable(and lower than its been in two months). I live in Edmonton however, and from here its showing $1842/person. That's almost a $400 dollar difference per person just for flying from 266km up the road!

Now I know itd be a different flight, which could account for some price difference. But its the same company(United) and basically around the same time of day. Any idea why there'd be such a crazy difference in price?

btw I'm already planning on driving down to Calgary with the girl to fly from there, if its that much cheaper. I'm just curious why there's such a difference. It seems bizarre.
Oh, and I'll get the first response out of the way: "Because no-one wants to go to Edmonton". We'll pick it up from there...

Actually that may be it- to a certain extent.

If they are having no problems selling out the package from Edmonton, there is no reason to slash the price. But if nobody in Calgary is buying they will need to drop the price.

So basically because more people want to get the heck away from Edmonton, the price is higher.

(That would be guess anyways.)

Hahaha nice, I love the response. Makes sense too. So basically by flyin from Calgary, I: a) save lots of $$$, b) get to stretch out on an emptier flight, and c) don't have to ride with smelly Edmontonians. Its all win!
